Explained: Mid-Credits Scene of Black Panther 2 Has a Special Appearance

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dealt with T’Challa’s death, Wakanda’s feud with Namor, and the future of the Black Panther mantle. With the movie being so phenomenal, one couldn’t help but hope for more even once it ended.

Thankfully, every MCU fan knows the drill—wait till the end of the credits for bonus scenes. So how many post-credits scenes does Black Panther 2 have? What is it about?

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only has one mid-credits scene during which Nakia reveals that she and T’Challa have a son. His Haitian name is Toussaint, but he bears the Wakandan name T’Challa, after his father. The film does not have an end-credits scene.

As if we weren’t already a puddle by the time the movie ended, the mid-credits scene hits you hard as a six-year-old Toussaint appears on the screen. But just like his father, his smile lights up the Shuri-led Black Panther world with more hope.

Nakia

Nakia was bizarrely absent from T’Challa’s funeral. Throughout the movie, she expressed that it was simply too hard to face the reality of T’Challa’s death. But the revelation of their son added more layers to her decision.

Nakia explains to Shuri that T’Challa did not want Toussaint to grow up with the pressure of being a royal. He also did not want Nakia and Toussaint to attend his funeral, as it was not yet time to introduce his son to the world.

While talking to Toussaint, Nakia also remarks, “Your father prepared you for his death, right?” It is sad but also reassuring to see how the young boy takes this fact in his stride. This line is also a callback to when T’Chaka tells T’Challa that a good father always prepares his son to deal with the father’s death.

Does Black Panther have a son in the comics?

T’Challa/Black Panther

Yes, Black Panther does have a son in the comics but he’s on an alternate Earth with the X-Man, Storm. His name is Azari and he has the combined powers of his parents, like electrokinesis, force fields, enhanced physical abilities, etc.

It is unlikely that MCU’s Toussaint and comic’s Azari are the same character, despite both being T’Challa’s sons. It appears that Toussaint may be an original character created for the MCU.

Will Toussaint become the next Black Panther?

There’s a huge possibility that T’Challa’s son Toussaint may become the next Black Panther. Marvel doesn’t create and introduce new characters for no reason. So even if sentimentality is at play here, the bigger reason could be to pass on the mantle of Black Panther.

Shuri is the new next Black Panther

Mind you, this will take some time—Black Panther 2 has confirmed that it has been six years since the events of the first movie, which means Toussaint can’t be older than six. He may be called on to become Black Panther when he grows up.

It is also possible that he may join the MCU’s version of the Young Avengers. Till then, Shuri’s got it covered!
