The Walking Dead is now 10 seasons old, and season 11 is just around the corner. With rumors about Rick Grimes’ return to the show, many of us are also left wondering about Carl Grimes’ return! Does he really die in The Walking Dead?
Carl was one of those characters who could’ve easily been foreshadowed by his father, Rick Grimes, but didn’t. In fact, his story arc is quite fulfilling, and the growth is impeccable. Of course, you could say he gets that from his father, but he was a braveheart.
He is pretty thoughtful and is someone who has always looked for the community and its people. So when the show writers killed him off, it truly broke my heart. The innocent boy had turned into a selfless protector but could not live another day. However, with the final season of The Walking Dead releasing next month, fans wonder if his character will reappear or does he really die?
Carl Grimes dies in The Walking Dead. When a walker bites him, he hides it but later tells Rick, his father. In order to not reanimate as a walker, Carl decides to shoot himself and dies.
We saw the last of Carl Grimes in Season 8, Episode 9 of The Walking Dead. As a fan of the show, I wish I had seen more of him. He was one of the most mature characters on the show who truly grew up.
He had known loss, pain, and grief right from when he was a child. Though this definitely hardened him as a person, he never turned into one of the bad guys. In fact, far from it. He didn’t get cold but went on to protect his community and people when his father was away.
What Carl Grimes brought to this show were innocence and purity. He was pure at heart and remained so even in his last moments despite everything. A true hero, I must say!
In Carl’s final episode, while he and Siddiq are trying to fight the walkers, he gets bit by chance but doesn’t tell anyone. He was genuinely aware though of what had happened and later, while in the sewers, bids adieu to all that were close to him – Michonne, Daryl, Judith, and Rick.
The atmosphere is morose, but Carl is still hopeful. He tells Rick of a far future where he envisions peace. It’s beautiful there, and Rick and Judith are living happily. He then asks Rick for a gun to shoot himself so that he doesn’t reanimate as one of the walkers. As Rick and Michonne wait outside the sewers, they hear a gunshot in the silence of the night and thus comes to an end, yet another beautiful story.
I definitely have missed him since then, and season 11 will be no different! The Walking Dead Finale Season premieres on August 22, 2021. I am pretty pumped for it, and I bet you are too!
About The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead is a neo-western horror drama that is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Robert Kirkman. It currently stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and others.
Rick Grimes, a sheriff’s deputy, wakes up from a coma to find that the world has just gone through a zombie apocalypse. He soon realizes that the world is divided into the zombies- the ‘walkers’- and a group of survivors who will do anything to survive.
The recent season, that is season 11, will adapt material from issues #175–193 of the comic book series and focuses on the group’s encounter with the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that has advanced equipment and almost fifty thousand survivors living in their different settlements.
