Does Chuck Rhoades Sr. Die In Billions?

Billions season 5 just keeps getting grittier with every episode. In the recent one, Chuck Rhoades Sr. ends up on a hospital bed due to kidney failure and needs a transplant to survive.

There have been multiple fan theories about what will happen to Chuck Rhoades Sr., with most fans being glad that this vicious character is finally on the doorstep of death. In fact, his hospital bed might just be his deathbed, and fans might celebrate that.

After a long hiatus, Billions has resumed, and this hospitalization could be one of the major plot points for the rest of the show. This is because it will profoundly affect the relationship between Chuck Jr. and Sr. while also depicting the other characters’ reactions, such as Wendy and possibly even Bobby Axelrod.

But first things first, would Chuck Rhoades Sr. die in Billions?

Chuck Rhoades Sr. does not die in the recent episode and is alive for now. Wendy is given the choice of pulling the plug, but she doesn’t yet. Chuck Jr. tries to get Chuck Sr. on top of the list by consulting a special doctor and stops just short of illegally buying kidney from an immigrant teenager.

So now the question remains, will Chuck Sr. get a transplant, or will he die? Some of the popular scenarios amongst fans are these.

Wendy Might Pull The Plug

Chuck Rhoades Sr. already believes that Wendy has it in her to pull the plug when necessary. He trusts her and nobody else. According to him, Roxanne is too young, and she can’t let Chuck Sr. go, and Chuck Jr. might pull the plug while he’s in the middle of a sentence itself, so that makes Wendy solely responsible.

Fans are speculating if Wendy might pull the plug. However, I think not because that might be too easy an exit. After all, Chuck already eavesdropped on this conversation and has his already bruised heart shattered.

So, not only will he not be surprised, the tension will immediately die down, and the show’s tone would become morose, which I don’t think is the writers’ intention. At least not yet.

Chuck Jr. Finds Illegal Ways To Get A Kidney

Chuck Jr.

Chuck Jr. is a character closest to Sr., not in terms of the closeness between them but rather how much Jr. will be affected if Sr. dies. I mean, their strenuous relationship has always made Chuck Jr. seek more validation from Chuck Sr. Even now, when he can just let go, he’s doing everything in his power to get a kidney for his father.

While Chuck tries to find prisoners who could give his father a kidney, he’s met with karma in the form of Dr. Gilbert. That’s right! Dr. Gilbert has become this boss in prison, and it’s sad but fitting that he isn’t allowing Chuck a kidney.

Frustrated, Jr. gets in touch with someone who can train Sr. to become fit and in shape to become eligible for a transplant and get them in front of the queue for transplant. Of course, there’s still too much left to chance, so he asks the doctor for a backup.

That’s when the doctor shows the image of an immigrant teenager a little far from El Salvador and how they can buy her kidney off. Desperate times do call for desperate measures, kidneys but Chuck Jr. isn’t that evil. When he is almost at the edge, ready to take get his hands dirty, he declines.

I don’t think Chuck Jr. would go down that road. Not because he has morals, but his false sense of morality will prevent him from doing so. He has always thought of himself as the good guy, and to maintain that reputation, he wouldn’t go by those illegal ways.

However, there are other ways in which he can get a kidney. This brings me to the third and my favorite possibility.

Bobby Axelrod Might Get Chuck Jr. A Kidney

Now, I know you’re thinking of why what, how, etc. But hear me out. Chuck Jr. and Bobby Axelrod are the fiercest rivals on the show. In fact, the complete Billions show surrounds that. However, there was this fan theory that got me pretty excited.

According to that, Chuck Jr., in his desperation, will corner Axe, aka Bobby Axelrod, and to get out of that, Bobby might end up trying and succeeding at getting a kidney for Chuck Sr., and the two might call it even. I know it’s pretty far-fetched, but if this happens, it’d be an epic way to end this season with a possible cliffhanger for the next season.

The only thing between Chuck Jr. and the kidney is his perception of ethics and himself. Joining hands with the person he’s been trying to convict since season 1 is the last straw for Jr. It would almost equivalent to a defeat.

But Billions is good with leaving battles open for another day. So perhaps Chuck loses the bout this time, but he might come back again. Plus, if I’m not wrong, he might manage to get a kidney and even find something to get back at his nemesis – Bobby Axelrod. That could be the plotpoint for the next seaso.

Whatever it may be, I can’t wait to let it all play out in the show. Season 5 has been one of the most gritty seasons in the series, and it is just going to get even better.
