The John Wick franchise is known for its many twists and turns so I’m sure you have a lot of questions. But the biggest one on everyone’s minds this time is: Does John Wick die in Chapter 4?

John Wick dies tragically at the end of the fourth movie after the duel between him and Caine ends. He bleeds out due to the gunshot wounds he incurred from the fight, drawing his last breath.

1. What is John Wick: Chapter 4 about?

In Chapter 4, John Wick prepares to take his revenge on the High Table and he starts by killing the Elder in Morocco.

In retaliation to the Elder’s death, the Marquis Vincent de Gramont, a senior member of the High Table, relieves Winston of his managerial duties at the New York Continental, has the Continental destroyed, and also shoots Charon, the concierge, dead.

The Marquis then hires Caine, a blind and retired High Table Assassin, and also an old friend of John’s, to kill him.

John takes refuge at the Osaka Continental, run by his friend Shimazu Koji. However, the Marquis’ assassins are able to locate him and this leads to an intense fight between the hotel’s staff and the assassins.

John manages to escape, but Koji dies at the hands of Caine and Koji’s daughter, Akira, who also joins the fight, is left wounded. We are also introduced to Mr. Nobody, who is a tracker following John to win the bounty placed on John’s head.

John then returns to New York to meet Winston. Winston suggests that John challenge the Marquis to a duel, the old-fashioned way, so that by winning, he can be free of his obligation to the High Table.

As per the rules, John needs to be part of a crime family to request a duel. So he decides to pay a visit to his previous family, the Ruska Roma, in Berlin. In exchange for receiving a new family crest, John’s adoptive sister Katia asks him to kill Killa, a High Table senior who murdered her father.

After another long fight, John successfully completes the task and gets the crest. He challenges the Marquis to a duel, after which they decide on the terms for it. The Marquis also nominates Caine to fight in his place.

The Marquis comes up with a plan to stop John from showing up to the duel by placing a new bounty of $40 million on his head. John then encounters several assassins trying to kill him, but with help from Caine and Mr. Nobody, he manages to kill them all and reach the place of the duel, the SacréCœur, on time.

2. How does John Wick die in the end?

In the first two rounds of the duel, both John and Caine fire shots at each other which wound them both. However, in the third round, Caine fires his shot first and this causes John to fall to the ground.

The Marquis takes the gun from Caine’s hand and points it at John in an attempt to finish him off. Before he can realise that John still has one more shot left, John shoots him in the head and kills him once and for all.
