Does the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale redeem Reva’s actions?

For Star Wars fans, Obi-Wan Kenobi brought one of their favorite duos, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, back on screen after many years. But there is also another new character who was highly anticipated as well—the Third Sister.

The finale was quite an emotionally charged one, and for the Third Sister, it was filled with self-questioning and loathing. At the end of it, can we say that Reva is not such a bad person after all?

In the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale, Reva is unable to kill Luke because, unlike Vader, she has not fully strayed into the dark side. However, this single decision alone does not redeem her of all her actions thus far.

Reva, better known as the Third Sister, started off as one of the show’s antagonists. She was depicted as eager to please Vader, going as far as kidnapping little Leia in order to sniff out any surviving Jedi.

Through the course of the season, she is seen attacking many innocent people, and I expect that to rise among the ranks of the Inquisitors, there are a lot of other horrible things she must’ve done off-screen as well.

In Episode 5, we finally found out that she was actually one of the surviving Jedi Younglings that Anakin slaughtered during Order 66. She put on the Third Sister act to get close enough to him, kill him, and avenge her fellow Younglings.

Reva

The thing is, Reva didn’t just hate Vader, she hated the Jedi as well because they failed to protect the kids. This hate manifested in the ugliest way possible, where she didn’t care about who she hurt, as long as she reached her goal.

When she gets a chance to kill Luke, she’s standing at the edge of her ethical line. If she crossed that, it would really seal the deal on what kind of person she is.

So does that mean not killing Luke redeems Reva? That’s like saying that Vader finally sacrificing himself for Luke in Return of the Jedi absolves him of all the atrocities he has committed. You don’t get a gold star for not killing someone!

But I can imagine that walking away from that anger was no easy decision for Reva, and for that, I do commend her.

Reva

Her morals were already skewered and she has done terrible things. If she wants to be redeemed, her future actions should at least try to undo those damages.

I’m unsure of what lies ahead for Reva, but this may not be the last time we see her. Whether in an Obi-Wan Kenobi S2 or another project, we may see her return—as a morally renewed person, hopefully.
