All the Deaths in Stranger Things Seasons 1 to 4

Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s most successful shows that combines sci-fi, horror, and fantasy genres in the most entertaining way possible. However, the genre demands an abundance of twists, turns, and, most importantly, deaths.

So, in this article, I’ll list all character deaths from Stranger Things seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4. Since season 4 has been the most recent one, I’ll start with it and then go in descending order. So, what are we waiting for? Let’s jump in!

Does someone die in Stranger Things season 4?

Yes, there are 9 significant character deaths in Stranger Things season 4. These include:

  • Eddie
  • Dr. Brenner
  • Chrissy
  • Patrick
  • Fred
  • Agent Harmon
  • Agent Harmon’s Partner
  • Victor Creel’s wife
  • Victor Creel’s daughter

1. Eddie is Killed by the Upside Down Bats

Eddie and Dustin’s job was to distract the Upside Down’s bats away from Vecna so that Steve, Nancy, and Robin could finish him. The two almost pull off something incredible. Almost! When Dustin and Eddie try to run away and hide in the trailer, the bats somehow find a way in.

The two manage to reach the gate from where the two can easily go into the real world. While Dustin climbs up the rope, Eddie decides to hang back and stall them. This leads to Eddie’s ultimate sacrifice, who couldn’t clear his name.

2. Dr. Brenner is Dead… This Time for Good

Dr. Brenner was considered dead in season 1, but we all know how he returned in season 4. In volume 2, the Colonel and his soldiers storm the facility where Eleven was present. The two try to escape, but Brenner gets shot right in the chest.

Before he dies, he tells El how proud he is of her and seeks her forgiveness. While Eleven does tell her papa a final goodbye, she doesn’t precisely forgive him. After taking his final breath, Eleven walks away from him and gets into the van with Mike and the others.

3. Chrissy, Fred, and Patrick are Hunted by the Vecna

Vecna, the main villain, picks targets who have gone through some form of trauma in life. He then exploits this and shows his victims visions of these traumatic memories.

He controls their minds when they are most vulnerable and kills them by breaking and disfiguring their entire bodies. This is precisely what he did with Chrissy, Fred, and Patrick.

While he tried the same with Max, she was saved all thanks to Nancy and Robin’s investigation at the Pennhurst Asylum, where they find out how listening to the favorite song can help the person come out of Vecna’s mental grasp.

4. Agent Harmon and His Partner are Shot by the US Army

Agent Harmon and his partner were responsible for keeping an eye on Will, Mike, and Jonathan. However, the three decide to escape and find Eleven to rescue her. However, just as they were about to, a troop of US army soldiers storm into the house and start shooting at anyone they see.

Agent Harmon dies almost immediately. His partner takes a bullet to save the kids. He manages to get into Argyle’s truck with them but later on dies due to excessive bleeding.

5. Victor Creel’s Wife and Daughter are Killed by Henry Creel

When Nancy and Robin meet Victor Creel at the Pennhurst Asylum, he tells them the story of his family’s death. He talks about all the incidents which are pretty similar to what happened with Chrissy and the others in the present day.

He talks about how his wife, daughter, and son were killed, but somehow he escaped because of a song and an angel. This is the clue that saves Max. However, the season 4, part 1 ending revealed that Henry Creel, his son, had killed the family and was alive in the form of Vecna.

Besides these, other deaths, including scientists and kids at the facility, are depicted at the start of episode 1. While there are more, they aren’t as important as those mentioned above.

Does someone die in Stranger Things season 3?

Yes, there are 3 significant deaths in Stranger Things season 3. Besides these, there are several other character deaths as well. These include:

  • Alexei Smirnoff
  • Billy Hargrove
  • Grigori
  • Heather Holloway
  • Janet Holloway

1. Alexei Smirnoff gets Shot by Grigori, the Russian Spy

Alexei

Alexei Smirnoff was one of the show’s funniest, wittiest, and most brilliant characters. However, he didn’t last long enough to see Eleven and the gang conquer the Mindflayer. At the carnival, he is shot by Grigori, the Russian spy who by all means has to keep Joyce, Hopper, and the rest away from the facility beneath the Starcourt Mall.

2. Billy Hargrove gets Stabbed by the Mindflayer

Billy Hargrove’s death was surprisingly painful and went on to haunt Max even in season 4. In season 3, his mind’s taken over by the Mindflayer, but Eleven saves him. When he comes back to his senses, he sees the Mindflayer going for El, Max, and the rest of the gang.

So he sacrifices himself and gets stabbed by the Mindflayer multiple times. Inevitably, this character too tragically departs from the show.

3. Grigori gets Overpowered by Jim Hopper

After the carnival, Grigori makes a final appearance at the facility beneath the Starcourt Mall to stop Joyce, Hopper, and Murray. However, this time Jim Hopper gets the upper hand in hand-to-hand combat, and he throws Grigori into the machine that keeps the portal/gate to the Upside Down open. Thus another one bites the dust.

4. Heather Holloway and Janet Holloway Melt to Form the Mindflayer

Both the characters died because of Billy, who at the time was possessed by the Mindflayer. First, Heather goes with a seemingly normal Billy and dies. Later, Janet dies after being poisoned by Billy and Heather.

Both of these characters are summoned by the Mindflayer when it needs to take a complete physical form. The two melt and together become a part of the Mindflayer.

Besides these, like in season 4, there are numerous deaths involving spies, scientists, and others, but they aren’t as crucial to the story as the above.

Does someone die in Stranger Things season 2?

Yes, Stranger Things season 2 has a few character deaths, but only one central character dies. The person is:

  • Bob Newby

1. Bob Newby is Killed by the Demodogs

Bob Newby was Joyce’s boyfriend before anything happened with Jim Hopper, but he couldn’t make it till the end of the season. He died before Joyce, Jim, and the kids as the Demodogs ate him. The nicest guys have the worst fates in horror shows.

Does someone die in Stranger Things season 1?

Yes, Stranger Things season 1 had 4 significant character deaths. These include:

  • Benny Hammond
  • Barbara Holland
  • Connie Frazier
  • Sara Hopper

1. Benny Hammond gets Killed by Connie Frazier

Benny Hammond was the one who first gave refuge to Eleven when she escaped from the Hawkins lab. However, he unwittingly put his own life in danger since special government agents were hunting for Eleven.

Connie Frazier was one of the significant ones who shot Benny Hammond when finding out about this. This was to keep the nefarious activities at the lab a secret, and to do so successfully; she had to stage the entire thing as a suicide.

2. Barbara Holland gets Killed by the Demogorgon

Barbara Holland

Babara Holland was yet another nice character killed by a creature from Upside Down. She is the first victim of the Demogorgon that we see on the screen, who enters Upside Down unintentionally. Here, she gets dragged into the pool and gets killed.

3. Connie Frazier gets Crushed (Literally!) by Eleven

In the final episode, when Connie tracks down Eleven and her gang, she has no clue what’s she going up against. When trying to capture her, she doesn’t stand a chance. Eleven crushes her skull and brain, instantly killing this sinister cold-blooded killer.

Like other seasons, numerous other character deaths are involved on and off-screen, but they aren’t necessary for you to follow the plotline of the series.

Stranger Things season 4, part 2, is releasing on July 1, and it will likely have a few deaths, at the very least. But, for now, the future of Nancy Wheeler hangs in the balance as she’s been captured by Vecna. Whether she survives or not remains to be seen.
