Complete List of Deaths in The Last of Us

The Last of Us is HBO’s latest release — a video game adaptation chronicling the journey of Joel and Ellie who are trying to find a vaccine in a zombie-infested world. Early reviews already certified this as a hit, and each masterfully created episode keeps proving it!

With such a setting, I’m sure you’re already expecting some characters to not make it out alive. So which major character deaths take place in The Last of Us?

Episode 1

I. Does Sarah Miller die in The Last of Us?

Sarah Miller, Joel’s daughter, dies in The Last of Us Ep 1. During the initial fungus outburst, she is shot by a police officer during the commotion. She succumbs to her wounds and dies because of it.

We meet Sarah through a poignant backstory which not only shows why Joel is the way he is but also gives us an insight into exactly what happened when the first infection outbreak happened.

Episode 2

I. Does Tess die in The Last of Us?

Tess dies in The Last of Us Ep 2. She reveals she had been infected for a few days and so, sacrifices herself to the zombies so that Joel and Ellie can escape.

This major character death comes only two episodes in, right when we were growing extremely fond of Tess. She never reveals when or how she got bitten, but the wound is bad enough to know that she won’t be able to survive for long.

To make her death meaningful, she decides to lure the infected toward her, so that Ellie and Joel can escape undetected. She then lights the whole place on fire, killing herself and the zombies.

Misc

With a show like The Last of Us, you can expect a lot of character deaths. Some death scenes in particular will even depict the way society had to abandon its humanity in order to survive and beat its fungal enemy.

For viewers, the most memorable minor character deaths would be the Adler family, which is when we witness the zombie outbreak for the very first time. Another cruel death would be on the child who is killed off-screen by the FEDRA and then burnt on-screen after it is revealed he is infected.

About The Last Of Us

The Last of Us is an HBO TV series adaptation of the award-winning video game of the same name originally developed by Naughty Dog.

It is set in 2033, as a fungal infestation plagues humans, turning them feral and blind before finally finishing them off. The series follows Joel’s journey to escort an immune 14-year-old Ellie to the Fireflies, who hope to study her to procure a vaccine.

The cast comprises Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, both famed for their roles in Games of Thrones, along with Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, and Nico Parker. The show was renewed for season 2.
