Stranger Things Season 4 is just two months away, and although the wait still feels like an eternity, it’ll be worth it as the Duffer brothers have promised the new season will be a very long one.
While appearing on a new episode of Present Company With Krista Smith, Ross Duffer teased a massive season and even expressed his shock at how some of the fan theories online were scarily accurate,
I think they’ll be happy when they see it. It’s very, very long, which is why it’s taking us a very long time. I’m constantly impressed with how sharp the fans are and how quickly they’re able to put something together with very, very little information.
Of course, we won’t know which of the various theories hit the nail on the head till the series premieres.
The creator’s words affirm an already-known fact as Netflix had previously announced that the upcoming season would be split into two parts, with Volume 1 rolling out on May 27 and Volume 2 premiering on July 1.
Netflix TUDUM called it “the biggest and boldest installment of the series yet” that’ll take the viewer through four different locations around the world to defeat the Upside Down once and for all.
Matt Duffer explained to Netflix Queue that since the characters have matured since Season 1, the tone for Season 4 will switch to a darker, horror-movie-type vibe.
They’re not kids anymore—they really are full-blown teenagers. That’s why this season, we leaned more into horror. We figured they should be in their own [version] of A Nightmare on Elm Street, basically… That’s important to make sure we don’t get bored, and the cast doesn’t get bored.
Speaking of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger in the iconic movie series, will have a guest appearance this season, so things are about to get real spooky.
The first look images revealed by Netflix also promise a dark tone. Still, there’s also a lot of familiarity to the characters we’ve grown to love, with their 80s hair-do, a knack for supernatural trouble, and Dungeons & Dragons Club.
The photos show newcomer Eddie leading a special meeting of Hawkins High’s D&D club; Eleven and the gang looking prepared to face off against the Upside Down, among other things, with another shot of the haunted Creel House.

Season 4 will pick up six months after the events of Season 3 saw the heart-breaking Battle of Starcourt as the gang reunites to Hawkins once again after being separated for so long.
Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 will premiere on Netflix on May 27. Till then, binge-watching the first three seasons is always a good idea.
