‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Film Adaptation’s Plot Synopsis Outed

The official plot synopsis for the Dungeons & Dragons film reboot has been revealed, which teases its fantasy adventure setting.

The movie is based on the renowned RPG of the same name, also known by its initials D&D, which was first published in 1974 and was originally designed by creators Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2023.

According to director Jonathan Goldstein, the movie began filming earlier this month, and now the synopsis has been revealed, as well.

As stated in the U.S. Copyright website, the Dungeons & Dragons plot will follow a full-on adventure fest and take players into the fantasy world of the iconic tabletop game.

The synopsis also gives fans the first insight into the many game classes and contingents set to be featured in the movie, including the Harpers. Read the full synopsis below:

“An ex-Harper turned thief escapes from prison with his partner, a female barbarian, and reunites with a no-talent wizard and a druid new to their team in an effort to rob the cheating conman who stole all their loot from the heist that landed them behind bars, and used it to install himself as the Lord of Neverwinter. Only the traitor is allied with a powerful Red Wizard who has something far more sinister in store.”

Dungeons & Dragons has been in development for a while now. Considering that the game is essentially built around a single player who gets free reign to build the narrative while others have to engage with characters and items from elsewhere in the world, an on-screen adaptation could seem tricky.

Although the first film attempted to include some aspects of the game, its generic and loose approach failed to resonate with viewers and longtime fans of the game.

Albeit the plotline might not indicate who is playing which character, it does suggest a prolific use of the fantasy world compared to what the previous adaptations sought to produce.

Furthermore, the film’s plot also seems like a much better way to introduce audiences to the setting and atmosphere of Dungeons & Dragons that could later help secure sequels, provided the film is successful.

But with the movie’s release still far away, further details or looks could perhaps not be revealed anytime soon.

As of now, the only other significant news about the reboot is its ensemble cast, which includes actors Chris Pine, Chloe Coleman, Jason Wong, Justice Smith, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page, and Sophia Lillis. Back in March, Hugh Grant was also cast to play the movie’s villain. However, the character list has not been released yet.

But until any other information is leaked, now could be an excellent time to jump into the extraordinary world of D&D.
