Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves—Plot, Cast, Trailer, and Visuals

Even if you live under a rock, you may have heard of the insanely popular strategy board game, Dungeons & Dragons. It was first released in 1974 and was immediately loved for its expansive storytelling and gameplay, with every campaign being unique and thrilling.

Such a beloved game should’ve resulted in a well-received movie. But sadly, it didn’t get it right in its first attempt in 2003. Now, the franchise has decided to give the cinematic world a second shot with a reboot.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a reboot of the original film trilogy, following the campaign set in the Forgotten Realms. It is set to release in cinemas on March 3, 2023.

As the film had a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, we have quite a few new details to munch on. Let’s go!

Plot

Every D&D game starts with a quest, and the film is no different. Except, as the Bard explains in the trailer, although his quest was successful, it resulted in something very bad—unleashing the greatest evil the world has ever known.

To get our story straight, the Bard isn’t one of the “good guys.” He and his partner Holga were thieves who simply got cheated by their team member, Forge Fitzwilliam. As if being thrown into jail wasn’t enough, they learn that Fitzwilliam has allied with the sinister Red Wizard.

Knowing that they have to be stopped at all costs, the Bard and Holga set out to create a new team made up of a Paladin, Sorcerer, and a Druid (who can also turn into an owlbear!) Will they succeed, or will they screw it up even more? Can’t wait to find out!

Cast

Dungeons & Dragons has a fantastic cast, who don’t just act the part but also look the part. Fans agree that Chris Pine is glorious as the Bard, ripe with the wise but jovial lute-playing vibes.

Michelle Rodriguez comes in strong as Holga, a Barbarian, while Regé-Jean Page is the valiant Xenk, who is a Paladin. We have two characters who can wield magic—a Sorcerer and a tiefling Druid, played by Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis.

A good story needs an equally brilliant villain and Hugh Grant takes care of that, as the Rogue, Forge Fitzwilliam.

Trailer and Visuals

Seeing how the original trilogy did horribly, you may feel a little wary about the reboot. But the newly released trailer may put those worries to bed. The tonal decision of not taking itself too seriously, paired with some commendable CGI, makes this film very promising.
