Sorry Hobbs, Dwayne Johnson Is Done With The Fast And Furious Franchise

Dwayne Johnson was notably absent from the latest Fast & Furious film, F9. Now, the actor has confirmed that he won’t be returning to the franchise and wished the team ‘best of luck’ for the upcoming instalments, Fast 10 and Fast 11.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson confirmed that he won’t be returning to portray the character of Luke Hobbs in the franchise.

Johnson also talked about his former co-star, Vin Diesel, addressing their ‘feud’ and called Diesel’s comments about giving co-stars ‘a lot of tough love’ laughable. The two have been in a feud since they wrapped up the production on The Fate of the Furious in 2016.

I laughed, and I laughed hard. I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I’ll leave it at that. And that I’ve wished them well. I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.

Johnson first appeared as Hobbs in Fast Five and starred in four Fast & furious films in total, along with the 2019 spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw.

Justin Lin is set to direct the last two films in the Fast and Furious franchise, which will tell a continuous story. Although several spin-offs are already in the talks, it looks like Hobbs & Shaw won’t be one of them.

The most anticipated role that Johnson is set to star in is the titular role for DC Comics’ Black Adam (a powerful supervillain and archnemesis of the Marvel Family). Johnson called Black Adam the most challenging role of his career yet,

“Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but the difference is he is blessed with magic. And also, by a code of ethics in the world of superheroes, they don’t kill the bad guys, but Black Adam does.

There were a lot of elements like that that made me feel this is a real opportunity here. I felt like everything that I had done in the past in terms of my career, all the movies that I had done over the decades, even the ones that didn’t do well, all led to this particular role.”

Well, as long as The Rock is still running for President, it’s alright if he cancels all other gigs.
