Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’ Adds Tony Nominee James Cusati-Moyer

Deadline reported recently that James Cusati-Moyer has entered the cast of New Line/DC’s forthcoming Black Adam in a role that’s being kept under wraps.

Cusati-Moyer is presently nominated for a Tony Award in the featured actor/play category for his role as Dustin in Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play.

Cusati-Moyer created the role when the play premiered Off-Broadway at the New York Theater Workshop and went on with the role on Broadway until the pandemic shutdown last spring.

The actor recently finished production on Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix series Inventing Anna featuring Julia Garner. His additional credits involve WBTV/Fox’s series Prodigal Son, Amazon’s Red Oaks, and Hulu’s The Path.

Cusati-Moyer debuted on Broadway with Tripp Cullman’s Six Degrees of Separation. Off-Broadway, he featured in Terrence McNally’s Fire and Air at Classic Stage Company.

The actor will join a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson in the titular role, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

Cusati-Moyer is represented by Paradigm, Anonymous Content, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. The movie comes out on July 29, 2022.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the script for Black Adam is written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The previous draft was written by Adam Sztykiel.

Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions are producing the movie along with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. Black Adam is the second New Line/DC film after 2019’s smash hit Shazam!. The characters Shazam! and Black Adam are arch-rivals in the DC Universe.

Black Adam is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics fictional supervillain, directed by Jaume Collett-Serra. It is a spinoff of the 2019 movie Shazam!, and the 11th film in the DCEU franchise.

Black Adam is the antihero to Shazam and possesses the same powers as the white-caped superhero. But after being imprisoned for 5000 years, he is finally free, and now, the Justice Society of America, a team of superheroes, must stop him before he fulfills his mission to wreak havoc on the world that rejected him.

The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam, and joining him are cast members Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, and Viola Davis.
