The Suicide Squad Is Predicted To Be A Redemptive Hit

A TV spot trailer for The Suicide Squad was played during the England vs Denmark Euro 2020 match. Stitched into the trailer were positive press reviews from the likes of BBC Radio 1 and Digital Spy. This may give us an insight on why The Suicide Squad is on a better road its predecessor.

It goes without saying that for a huge TV spot as the Euro 2020, Warner Bros would cherry pick the best reviews. It is still worthwhile to have a look at them: Ali Plumb from BBC Radio 1, who did not expect his review to get picked, is quoted as calling the movie “a jaw dropping spectacle.”

Digital Spy, on the other hand has given The Suicide Squad 4 out ot 5 stars.

But if we don’t want to believe TV Spot reviews, we can always trust fans who’ve had an early access to the film. Here are some fan tweets, all cheery and positive, who talk more about The Suicide Squad experience.

The DCEU has had its shares of ups and downs, and while the 2016 Suicide Squad failed to live up to expectations, its recent hits of Wonder Woman 1984 and Justice League Synder’s Cut has led us to believe that there is hope for The Suice Squad, owning to Gunn’s own impressive cornucopia of work.

But why exactly is The Suicide Squad predicted to be different?

1. Tone

A refreshing change to The Suicide Squad is that the movie does not need to take itself seriously even its hanging between life and death, with threats being very real. For starters, we know that a lot of the members we see on screen may not return.

We have Task Force X caught in the middle of a rebellion against a dictator, one they totally did not sign up for. And to top it out – they also have to face the ridiculous candy-looking cosmic villain Starro.

Through it all, the tone is bouncy, bloody fun (quite literally with the gore!) and just the right amount of inappropriate that we enjoy. Its R-rating does not disappoint.

Another TV spot, this one dedicated to King Shark gives us a little sneak peek on the hilarity we can expect.

2. Ensemble Cast

The Suicide Squad benefits from its selection of cast too. We should’ve guessed a redemptive arc was in play when Harley Quinn regained her agency in Birds of Prey.

Adding to which, leaving a headliner like the Joker behind has helped with a more cohesive gang that can be occasionally led by Idris Alba’s Bloodsport or Margot’s Robbie’s Quinn.

3. Possibility of spinoffs

Without a good feeler out for the film, the Peacemaker TV series (which has already wrapped filming) would not have been possible.

If The Suicide Squad is already good enough to have a Peacemaker spinoff, it may also prove to be viable background for other spinoffs and sequels. This will cement its valuable contribution to DCEU’s reigning streak.

Squad goals, laughter and carnage … What more can we ask for? Early responses to The Suicide Squad do seem great. You can decide for yourself on August 5, in theatres and streaming on HBO Max.
