Even England Premier League Couldn’t Withstand Ted Lasso’s Charms

In an ultimate boss move, the real England Premier League has ended up joining hands with the Emmy-winning football dramedy Ted Lasso.

On October 4, The Athletic broke the news that the English Premier League signed a £500,000 ($680,00 USD) profitable deal with Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso.

There’s no denying that the show is currently one of the most popular in the U.S. and influences many people. With a shortage of good sports dramas, Ted Lasso rises on the top like no other.

The show’s explosive success with the emotional stories sealed with witty humor and character development has led many new and old people alike to become football fanatics.

Cashing in on this, EPL has now given the show multiple assets to use and help them go deeper into the sports’ nuances.

The licensing deal allows the show’s production team to brand the EPL logo anywhere they want, along with archive footage, club kits, and even the trophies.

This deal comes as a big cherry-on-top as Season 2 ends with the fictional AFC Richmond finally getting their place back in the fictional Premier League, with the help of Dani’s penalty kick.

As the finale kicked in just a few days earlier and opened a whole new world of challenges, it’ll be interesting to see how season 3 pans out for the team. Especially now with Ted Lasso having the backup of one of the major football leagues in the world.

Ted Lasso’s attraction isn’t going to fade away soon, even if the third season might end up being the last. With 20 Emmy nominations under its pocket and multiple wins, the show is currently hands down the top Apple TV+ show.

With the help (and promotions) from the England Premier League, season 3 is expected to showcase the inner workings of an actual Premier League, and who knows, it might even feature some football stars.

With the great reception Ted Lasso 2 has ended on, we can’t wait for what season 3 might hold.

About Ted Lasso

Ted Lasso is an American sports-comedy streaming TV series developed by Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt. It’s based on a character of the same name that Sudeikis first portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League.

It follows the life of Ted Lasso, a coach of college-level American football who is unexpectedly recruited to coach an English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, despite having no experience at all in association football.

It stars Sudeikis as the titular character, Ted Lasso, joined by Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, and Sarah Niles among many others.
