Is John Walker Using Vibranium in ‘TFATWS’ Ep 5 Post-credits?

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 5’s post-credits scene reveals John Walker forge the Captain America shield.

The fifth episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, “Truth,” shows Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes successfully retrieve Captain America’s shield from John Walker.

Since the ownership of the shield is “kind of a legal grey area,” according to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, therefore, the shield is in Sam’s possession presently.

On the other hand, Walker receives a less-than-honorable discharge from his duty and is forced to retire without his rank.

Walker soon comes into contact with the fascinating new character Val, but he still doesn’t get a new shield. So, he builds one.

The scene shows Walker hard at work building himself a new Captain America shield, Iron Man-style. However, Walker sears his medals onto the back of the shield, which is probably a reminder to Walker that no one can take away his service, not even America.

The material used to make Cap’s original shield, Vibranium, is a rare and valuable metal found only in Wakanda.

When the US military got hold of some during World War II, they turned it into Steve’s shield. As Ultron said in Avengers: Age of Ultron, “The most versatile substance on the planet, and they used it to build a frisbee.”

It is doubtful that Walker has access to Vibranium, let alone know how to make it into a shield. There’s a reason Captain America’s shield flies and bounces the way it does, and it’s because of its Vibranium construction.

Walker’s shield is bound to be inferior to the original shield the next time Walker and Sam Wilson cross paths.

However, Walker’s new shield is the culmination of several episodes of build-up. It’s a symbol for the man’s whole arc.

The government has stripped Walker of his status as Captain America. But Walker refuses to let one mistake undo everything he’s built.

And so, even though Walker lacks the quality to fill Captain America’s boots appropriately, his stubbornness to still be a superhero at any cost reflects through in his efforts to carve out his shield.
