Ethan Hawke Addresses If Arthur Harrow Is Still Alive in Moon Knight

Starring Oscar Issac, Marvel Studios’ sixth Disney+ series, Moon Knight, premiered on March 30. The show introduced audiences to Steven Grant, a socially awkward and nerdy gift-shoppist who is unaware of his other identities, including Marc Spector, who acts as the avatar of the mercenary Moon God, Khonshu.

Ethan Hawke plays the series’ antagonist, Arthur Harrow, a cult leader who has a habit of wearing shoes with broken glass in them.

The Moon Knight’s finale ended with the suggested death of its main antagonist, Arthur Harrow, in an encounter with Jake Lockley, another one of Marc’s personalities, and Khonshu in the post-credits scene.

Ethan Hawke has now addressed whether that means his character is indeed dead for good in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The finale of Moon Knight shows Harrow in a mental institution before Jake Lockley escorts him out. Harrow is forcefully seated inside Khonshu’s limo, where the flat-caped driver, Jake, seemingly shoots Arthur four times before pulling away.

It might seem as though his fate is pretty clear, but Hawke is here to suggest otherwise.

As part of a recent interview with ComicBook to promote Scott Derrickson’s upcoming horror film, The Black Phone, Hawke was asked if his Marvel villain is actually dead.

It’s worth noting that Moon Knight features a main character who was resurrected by an Egyptian God, Khonshu, in exchange for servitude himself. Harrow’s body is never shown, and in the MCU, the possibilities are limitless.

Although Hawke didn’t reveal many details, he teased that Harrow “sure doesn’t seem dead” to him.

Moon Knight’s post-credit scene suggests a Season 2. The episode ends with Khonshu apparently freeing Marc Spector from his pact, but the credits show that Jake Lockley, the third personality, is still very much working with the Egyptian god.

Moon Knight was always billed as a limited series, and Isaac and Hawke’s contracts did not extend beyond Season 1, so it is unclear whether or not there will be another season.

Hawke has suggested in the past that the reception of Moon Knight will determine the fate of its characters and story, so it’s unclear what he knows. Nonetheless, it is more likely that Harrow will appear in a second season or Moon Knight movie than anywhere else in the MCU.

A few villains such as Zodiac, Raul Bushman, and Stained Glass Scarlet were initially considered by Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater and his team before they decided on Harrow.

Hawke’s comment suggests that his character’s story could continue in a second season, despite the introduction of other villains. Having realized the errors of his ways, Harrow could return, either as an ally to Marc or as a Ned Flanders-like psychiatrist, who would still be alive in Marc’s head.

Nevertheless, it is unlikely that we’ve seen the last of the Moon Knight characters.
