Euphoria’s All-New Special Episode is Out and it is About Jules

HBO Max has just released the second stand-alone episode of the teen drama Euphoria and it has already grabbed the attention of many. The first season of the show ended in 2019 in an explosively emotional finale and while season two is on the way, it won’t be here for some time. The two stand-alone specials, of which the first one premiered last December, are serving as the bridge between season one and two.

The new episode, which is set after the final episode of the first season, focuses on Jules during the holiday season. The viewers see her talking to a therapist on Christmas and recounting all that went wrong over the past year.

During the chat, her relationship with her mother, her relationship with her best friend/lover, Rue, and her relationship with her online boyfriend, Tyler (which was actually Nate trying to cat-fish her) comes up.

It is revealed that Jules had been trying to reconcile with her estranged alcoholic mother throughout the first season. She realizes the similarities between her relationship with her mother and her relationship with Rue- they are not aware of how their addictions affect Jules.

At the end of her session, Jules states that she is thinking of stopping her hormone replacement pills because she believes that her idea of femininity was guided by men’s desires.

As if all that wasn’t enough to hit us in the feels, the episode ends with an emotional encounter between Jules and Rue, when Jules says that she feels terrible about leaving without Rue. Their encounter also shows that “Trouble Don’t Last Always”, the first special that aired in December, is a sequel to the second episode.

The second special premieres on Sunday, January 24th on HBO. The episode has already been released on the network’s streaming service, HBO Max.
