The Last of Us Gets its Riley Abel in Famous Teen Actor Storm Reid

The talented teen actor Storm Reid has joined the incredible cast of HBO Max’s The Last of Us TV series.

On January 15, Reid tweeted a picture of Riley Abel from the 2013 PlayStation game the series is based on and announced that she would be essaying the character in the live-series. She even added that her 2022 “looked bright already.”

In the top-rated Naughty-Dog video game, The Last of Us, Riley was an orphan brought up in post-apocalyptic Boston. She becomes close friends with Ellie (who will be essayed by Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old who holds the key to immunization.

Riley’s friendship with Ellie is crucial, at least in the video game. She accompanies the protagonist while they try to survive and fight the zombie apocalypse in their own ways. Joel arrives much later in the scene.

Reid’s announcement comes as a sweet surprise as not many would have imagined the powerhouse 18-year-old would be a part of the show. But knowing the incredible talent she possesses, many are just as much excited to see her bringing the game character to life as she is.

The actress is currently seen in the popular teen drama Euphoria, where she plays Rue’s (Zendaya) younger sister Gia Bennet. Previously, she bowled people with her talent in her debut film 12 Years a Slave, in shows such as When They See Us, A Wrinkle in Time, and even in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Reid will feature in The Last of Us series alongside Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel. With HBO Max adapting the game for television, the origin story of Riley, or even Ellie, might or might not be different from the original.

Many believe Riley to be the “deuteragonist” – the second important character who has enough screen time and can change the course of a story.

Whether Riley would have the same importance in the show or make a guest appearance for a few episodes – as Joel tries to protect Ellie to reach safe quarters remains central – will be known only once the show releases.

The Last of Us is expected to air towards the end of 2022.
