The Ultimate Guide to Every Character in The Rings of Power

The Rings of Power is one of the most awaited shows to have been released this year. If you’re not a Lord of the Rings fan, it might be a little overwhelming to get into the grand universe at first. Even I, who already am a big LOTR fan, took some time to take it all in.

As you might already know, The Rings of Power is an original spinoff series of J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy. While the show isn’t directly related to LOTR and does not feature the same characters, it is set in the same universe. The events of the series take place thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.

Before delving deep into the world of the rings, it might be helpful to have an idea about the various characters who are going to play significant roles in the series. Even if you’re familiar with Tolkien’s books or the movies, this is all brand-new.

Amazon Prime’s “Explore” section, which you can find if you scroll down after clicking on a particular show, gives us pretty clear introductions to the major characters in the series. For your convenience, I have put everything together from the section in this article.

So, if you want a short introduction before starting your journey, you’re at the right place.

1. The Elves

I. Galadriel – She’s a legendary elven warrior and the Commander of the Northern Armies. Prime describes her as strong, brave, and relentless. In contrast to the wise Lady of L’orien that she is destined to become, the young Galadriel is rebellious and energetic.

II. Elrond – Elrond was given the choice to remain either a human or an elf. He chose to remain half-elven, and in turn, immortal. In contrast, his brother Elros chose to be a human (and mortal) and became the first King of Numenor. Although greatness runs in his veins, he still needs to find his place in the world. He has to make crucial decisions, including choosing between what’s good for his kingdom and his loyalty to his dear ones.

III. Arondir – He is a Silvan Elf. These are a group of elves that did not leave Middle-Earth for Valinor. He grew up in the now-sunken lands of Beleriand and spent almost a century watching over people in the Southlands, whose ancestors sided with evil long ago. Though his watch has finally ended, Arondir seems to have grown attached to his watch, and to the healer woman, Bronwyn.

IV. Lord Celebrimbor – The Elf-lord of Eregion is a visionary artisan who dreams of reforming Middle-Earth into a place of grandeur and beauty that can outshine the grace of Valinor itself. Not much is known about him, going by Amazon Prime’s official descriptions.

V. High King Gil-Galad – Prime describes the man as “powerful, pragmatic and wise”. He is an Elven warrior and King, ruling from the Elven capital in Lindon. Although he dreams of a better and brighter future for all Elves, he has a secret that threatens his people and all of Middle-Earth.

2. The Númenóreans

I. Queen-Regent Miriel – Although her father is the official ruler of the island realm of Numenor, Queen Miriel is the acting ruler. She, too, bears the burden of a terrible secret that can affect the future of her people.

II. Captain Elendil – He is the Captain of the Numenorean guardship and is at his best when he is at sea. He is a widower, and his children have now grown up and are ready to start new chapters in their lives. However, that isn’t great news for Elendil.

Pharazon

III. Pharazon – He is a respected Numenorean statesman and Queen Miriel’s most important subject. He is also a people’s man. However, beneath his stalwart personality, he hides his own ambitions for Numenor.

IV. Earien – She is Elendil’s daughter and Isildur’s sister. She is quite ambitious, but at the same time, cares for her family. However, the complex political atmosphere makes her realize that her convictions may be at odds with her family members.

V. Isildur – This young man already has his future planned out in front of him. He is Elendir’s son, all set to join his father at sea. However, he is not sure if he likes this future plan and wants to explore other options.

VI. Kemen – Pharazon’s son, Kemen is an arrogant and handsome young man who is eager to win his father’s approval. He might go too far to prove his allegiance to his father’s ideals.

3. The Southlanders

I. Bronwyn – Bronwyn is a healer from the Southlands and a single mother. However, her skills and mind are hardly ever appreciated by the people around her. Only one person seems to understand her brilliance, the soldier Arondir. However, Bronwyn’s people hate Arondir, making any relationship between them forbidden.

II. Halbrand – He is a “low man” from the Southlands. He is on the run from his past, and perhaps from his destiny. Again, the Explore section does not reveal too much about him. The series surely will.

III. Theo – Theo is Bronwyn’s only son, who has grown up under the watchful eyes of the elves. Naturally, the elves cannot see beyond their ancestors siding with the evil years ago. As a young man, he nurtures curiosity and finds himself tempted by a dark discovery.

4. The Harfoots

I. Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot – Nori belongs to the community of Harfoots, a wandering, ancestral community of halflings who will eventually develop into Hobbits. Nori dreams of experiencing the world beyond the small bounds of the perilous world of the halflings.

II. Poppy Proudfellow – Poppy is an orphan and also Nori’s curious best friend. She had to grow up quickly because of suffering a great tragedy early in her life. However, she sticks with Nori through thick and thin.

III. Largo Brandyfoot – Largo is a daydreamer and Nori’s large-hearted father. He indulges in his daughter’s daydreams much more than he should.

IV. Marigold Brandyfoot – Marigold is much more realistic compared to Nori’s father Largo and Nori herself. As Nori’s caring stepmother, she wants Nori to keep her feet on the ground. This is because she once herself had the same daydreaming spirit as Nori but learned the hard way that it will one day be replaced by harsh truths of reality.

V. Sadoc Burrows – He is the Harfoots’ Trailfinder, or in other words, a wise leader. He guides the community to safety on their annual migrations. He is gifted with the wisdom of generations and holds the secrets hidden in the stars.

5. The Dwarves

I. Prince Durin IV – He is the heir to the throne of Khazad-dum. Prince Durin is a dwarven and taciturn in public, but away from the public eye, he is thoughtful and boisterous. He looks forward to a time when he can make his mark in the world.

II. Princess Disa – Princess Disa is Prince Durin’s wife and the future Queen. She is warm and loving and possesses the special ability to sing to the mountain to locate where ores reside and where it is safe to dig. She is an able ruler who will do anything for the good of her people, including pushing her husband to do what is right.
