Who Are The Monsters In A Quiet Place And A Quiet Place 2

With the sequel of A Quiet Place, the Abbott family is back, and so are these monsters we now know are aliens. It’s interesting to see how the monsters draw more curiosity and attention than the main characters themselves. Guess that’s what good writing can do.

Throughout the two films, we came across some spine-chilling sequences that made us dread these monsters. You make a sound, and before you can take your next breath, these monsters will hack you to pieces. Sounds too familiar, right?

But there’s more. These monsters have been designed by the writers so that there are many layers and reasons why they look the way look, their strengths and weaknesses.

1. Here’s Everything We Know About The Monsters In A Quiet Place Film Franchise

1.1 Blind Monsters

These monsters don’t have any eyes. They can’t see anything or anyone, and most probably, their steps and direction are guided by the sound they hear.

1.2 Sound Sensitive Creatures

I don’t think there are many surprises now, is there? As you would’ve seen in A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place 2, these monsters attack anything and everything that makes a sound.

Pretty much why the Abbott family, talks in the sign language, uses soft materials like wool as coins on a board game, have the walls pasted with newspapers in the basement, walk bare feet, and whatnot!

1.3 Bulletproof Plates & External Scales

We know that the monsters are aliens who’ve come from a different planet through a meteorite crash. However, despite the impact of the meteor blast, the heat, and the fire, they survived. So let’s just say they are doing a pretty good job at surviving and killing humankind. Quite efficiently and quickly, I might add.

Moreover, we’ve seen multiple times that bullets on their external body don’t work. So instead, they need to be shot right at the center of their face like Emily Blunt did at the end of A Quiet Place. (Wasn’t that badass!).

1.4 Only Kill, Don’t Eat

We’ve all closed our eyes when we see the blood and flesh is torn apart by these alien monsters. But if you open your eyes just a bit, you’ll see they don’t actually eat humans. That clearly is not on their list of priorities.

1.5 Intolerance To High Frequencies

In A Quiet Place, we see Lee Abbott played by John Krasinski, try to build a high-frequency hearing aid. He figured that the monsters could not tolerate higher frequencies. Hence this would be their best shot at giving one back to their team. (I know it’s not a game, but you know what I mean.)

So at the end of A Quiet Place 2, when the hearing aid is placed on the mic of the radio station, the frequency is amplified and so high that the monsters’ external plates on the face open up, and the Abbott family, along with Emmett is able to kill them. (Is it just me, or are there too many t’s in the names here?)

1.6 Terrestrial Beings Who Can’t Swim

In A Quiet Place, we see Lee take his son near a waterfall where they could usually talk. This is because the white noise created distorts the sound, and hence the monsters stay away from it.

Emily Blunt in A Quiet Place 2

We see a couple of instances from A Quiet Place 2 as well, where water proves helpful to the family. For instance, when Emily Blunt set off the sprinkler with water, the alien couldn’t hear much, and hence she was able to sneak off underground.

Another instance is when Emmett jumps off into the water, one of the monsters jumps in but instantly starts to drown since it is unable to swim. Finally, when Emmett and Reagan (Lee’s daughter) reach the island, a group of people lives there harmoniously because the alien monsters can’t reach them.

2. What We Don’t Know About The Monsters

Well, the above weaknesses sure do give us hope. Maybe in the third sequel, that just might happen. But for that, we need to more. We don’t know why they attack the sounds. Is it to keep themselves safe from the sound, or is it a way for them to eradicate living species on Earth?

We also don’t know where they actually exist. We usually see them appear out of nowhere but never see one just casually strolling down the street. Is there a nest or a hive where they all gather and vibe in silence? Well, we don’t know yet.

However, in an interview with Collider, John Krasinski mentioned that he had an entire backstory planned for the aliens themselves before writing the events of A Quiet Place. Besides this, John also mentioned that he had an idea for a third sequel. So guess we’ll find out more about the aliens when John wants us to.
