After that kickass cliffhanger at the end of Kingdom, it will be injustice to not give us a Season 3! Season 2 exceeded expectations in all ways possible – we got to know the origin of the zombie epidemic and what they are actually afraid of!

But here’s the most exciting part – Season 2 finale introduced a mysterious young woman who is in all probability the reason behind the zombie epidemic.

So, it is only natural that there will be a Season 3 because the fight is far from being over!

1. Will There Be A Kingdom Season 3?

Well, there’s some good news and some bad news!

Here it goes: It’s been a while and there’s still been no official confirmation from Netflix regarding Kingdom being renewed for Season 3. But there are several rumours regarding the cast, plot and even release dates so it’s still pretty much obvious that there will be a third season.

But here’s the good news! Kingdom is returning with a special bonus episode titled “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” which is all set to release on July 23rd, 2021 on Netflix.

This special episode will be focusing on the character of Gianna Jun, played by Jun Ji-hyun. So while you wait for the Season 3 confirmation, it’s a good idea to look forward to this special episode.

Season 3 rumours were actually supported by the screenwriter Kim Eun-hee and director Park in-je in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

Strangely enough, Kingdom is a series that gives me more energy the more I write it. The cast and crew all have great chemistry, and there’s so much more to tell. If viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10.

2. What Happens In Season 2?

In the Season 2 finale, Lee Chang finally manages to defeat the zombies. But that does not solve the problem. Unless Chang is able to trace the roots or the origin of the problem, all solutions are just temporary.

So Chang and Seo Bi decide to find out the actual cause behind the zombie epidemic. In the finale, after a seven years leap, Chang and Seo Bi is seen in a village teeming with zombies.

Apparently, a mysterious stranger has been selling the flowers from the Resurrection plant to commoners and thereby instigating the epidemic. In a glimpse, we see this mysterious young woman at the end of the finale.

Who is she? What is exactly is her motive? These are questions that has been in the minds of Kingdom fans for a long time. But only Season 3 can answer these questions. So I am quite certain that the series is returning with a new season.

3. What To Expect In Season 3?

There’s a lot of stuff fans can expect to see in the new season of Kingdom. First of all, we can expect the identity of the mysterious lady to be disclosed.

Her identity, what exactly is her motive and how she has been instigating the epidemic should all be answered in Season 3. We can also expect to learn how Chang hopes to deal with the problem at hand.

Also, since Chang is considered dead according to historical records, it will be interesting to see how he will be making a comeback. Kingdom has always dealt well with politics and drama, so we can expect more of that stuff as well!

And the most important question, will a cure for this zombie epidemic ever be found? We will have to wait and watch.

4. Cast for Kingdom Season 3

The most exciting part about the cast of Kingdom Season 3 is Jun Ji Hyun. The actress a well-known face in South Korea.

She was seen in the last few seconds of the Season 2 finale as the mysterious woman and more than anything, her casting itself confirms a third season. Details about her role are not known yet, but we are surely going to see more of her in the upcoming season.

Apart from that, Jun Ji-hoon will be returning as Prince Lee Chang along with other cast members such as Bae Doo-Na, Kim Sung-Kyu, Jun Suk-Ho and Ahn Eun Jin.

5. About Kingdom (2019)

Kingdom is a 2019 South Korean political fantasy drama thriller series written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Kim Seong-hun. It is Netflix’s first Korean original. The series is based on the webcomic series The Kingdom of the Gods by Kim Eun-hee.

As of now, the series has two seasons. A special episode of the series, titled “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” is set to release on 23rd July, 2021 and will be centered around the supporting character Ashin played by Jun Ji-hyun.
