Exclusive Clip Shows Green Knight Arrive At King Arthur’s Round Table

A new exclusive clip from the much-awaited film, The Green Knight, sees King Arthur addressing the round table.

The clip seems to be a scene leading up to the moments where the Green Knight challenges the knights of the Round Table (as previously seen in the official trailer).

In the clip, the mysterious knight enters King Arthur’s court on a horse to bring the monarch a letter. We see glimpses of Gawain’s mother, who is blindfolded as she casts a spell while carrying the letter with a green seal that burns to ashes.

We also see Dev Patel as Sir Gawain, lurking behind, in the shadows. Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur’s Round Table whose saga was first told in the 14th-century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (republished by J.R.R. Tolkien in 1925).

IGN Premiere released the clip as a part of their month-long event that spotlights some of the biggest upcoming releases in entertainment. The Green Knight is the new epic fantasy adventure inspired by the Arthurian tale.

Description of the video reads:

In this IGN Premiere exclusive clip, the very first clip released from the film, King Arthur (Sean Harris) interacts with Gawain (Dev Patel) and the Knights of the Round Table when they receive a visitor to Camelot … the Green Knight (played by The Witch’s Ralph Ineson).

The scene also features Sarita Choudhury as Gawain’s Mother, who, although she is not named, represents Morgan la Fey, and who may or may not be guiding the story from behind the scenes. Director David Lowery’s The Green Knight opens July 30.

The film’s release was postponed for a year due to COVID-19. It is now set for a release on July 30. The A24 film is written and directed by the visionary filmmaker David Lowery.

A recent report by Variety explains why it took Lowery more than a year to perfect the key sequence to ‘set up the epic quest that propels the story.’

Lowary first started editing the scene in 2019 but decided to give it another shot. Reshoots were out of the question because of the pandemic, so he used shots from other parts of the scene and pieced them together.

Initially, we had three days to shoot, and it turned into five. If you look at the script, it’s not that long — five pages — but there are little scenes within that. We didn’t have that much coverage — whether it was a reaction shot or a wide shot. It’s really a testament to how many ways you can put together the same few pieces of footage.

He also wanted to establish the sequence’s rhythm, balancing King Arthur walking around the table with Morgan le Fay casting her spell.

It was about finding the right cadence of his voice intercut with the imagery of the spell. It was all about building up to the door bursting open, and the knight walks in.

In May, the official trailer was released, displaying the film’s breathtakingly magnificent cinematography that feels like it’s taking you right into the pages of the epic lore.
