Fans Point out This Recurring MCU New York City Plot Hole

New York City has played a central role in much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stark Tower in Manhattan, rebranded Avengers Tower following Loki’s invasion, Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village, Captain America is a kid from Brooklyn, Spider-Man lives in Queens, etc.

The Stark/Avengers Tower seems to, however, have caused some continuity errors. Despite the fact that the building’s exact address is never mentioned in the MCU, it is supposed to occupy the same space as the MetLife building. This was accepted by Avengers production designer James Chinlund, who based his design on the MetLife building.

The property was bought by Tony Stark out of arrogance in order to rebrand it. In light of this, it’s problematic when an unaltered MetLife building frequently appears in the background of MCU projects, as in Hawkeye’s season finale, which viewers quickly spotted.

It appears that Marvel Studios didn’t get the message, despite social media mocking the oversight in the past. A Marvel fan on Reddit with the username Electrical_Daikon771 recently pointed out that the MetLife building appears once again in the skyline when Doctor Strange battles Gargantos in Multiverse of Madness.

The MetLife building can still be seen in the background, still bearing the company’s logo, as the multiversal monster grips Strange with one of its tentacles.

The building has also been seen in other Marvel properties. There are several instances where it’s noticeable in the background of the Netflix originals Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

This isn’t the first plot hole the MCU has ever had. With more than a decade of interconnected blockbusters, Marvel’s franchise is bound to experience some continuity errors.

Even so, it’s not hard to admit that it’s at least a little bit funny that the biggest franchise in cinema history can make the same simple mistake multiple times, especially when their fans are quick to call it out.
