‘Fast & Furious 9’: Early Reactions Praise the Upcoming Sequel

The early reactions for Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 9 are here, and they do not disappoint. Almost two decades since the franchise’s inception with the first film, the action series is finally entering its last trilogy with a new adventure.

Following several delays from the initial 2019 release, F9 will be making its debut on June 25, and a select few insiders got the opportunity to watch it before its premiere. Check out some of the initial reactions here:

From the looks of it, the movie does justice to the story, although some fans had issues regarding how over-the-top it has become. However, critics have praised it for its action sequences which the franchise has clearly become known for.

The trailers, too, have teased the new and innovative ways by which the movie’s stunts have been improved. But the most important aspect of F9 is its story, which will explore Dom’s origins and introduce his brother Jakob (John Cena) as the villain.

But as it appears, the character has been cleverly incorporated into the film rather than just squeezed into it for the sake of creating drama between the Toretto brothers.

Furthermore, from the movie’s promotions, it seems that F9 also harkens back to its original roots, as it echoes many elements from the saga’s previous films.

Letty & Dom

Another interesting aspect of the film revolves around the return of Sung Kang’s Han, who was assumed to be dead. The actor has proclaimed that Fast & Furious 9 will help shed light on what happened to his character. The movie will also see the return of director Justin Lin who previously overlooked Tokyo Drift through F6

Although there’s no explicit confirmation about it yet, the Tokyo Drift gang is assumed to be playing a significant role in the F9 narrative. But despite a few snags, the movie overall is a welcome addition in the long-reigning franchise and is all set to be a hit blockbuster this summer.

About Fast and Furious 9

Fast and Furious 9 (or F9) is an American action film directed by Justin Lin. The film is a sequel to 2017’s The Fast and Furious and the ninth instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise.

The film will star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren and John Cena, among others. The film was delayed for over a year due to the pandemic in March 2020. It is scheduled to release in the United States on June 25, 2021.

Dominic Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian. But they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, the threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver ever seen: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob.
