Fast X Mid-Credits Scene Explained: Hobbs’ Return & Dante’s Revenge

Fast X has more surprises in store after the credits start to roll. The franchise’s tenth installment comes two years after F9 and marks over two decades since the debut of The Fast and the Furious.

As the finale approaches, Fast X’s post-credits scene teases Fast & Furious 11 and features a familiar face.

Fast X features Jason Momoa as Dante Reyes, the son of Hernan Reyes who seeks revenge on Dominic Toretto for his father’s death ten years ago.

Dante’s scheme endangers Dom’s family and puts them in grave danger. The film ends with a cliffhanger that leaves the characters’ fates uncertain. An extra scene reveals a hint about the future and another character’s involvement.

1. How many post-credits scene are there in Fast X?

Fast X includes a single post-credits scene that appears midway through the credits. The franchise has not always used this device, but it has been effective when bringing back characters who were thought to be dead.

Fast 9 had a mid-credits scene that reintroduced Deckard Shaw and hinted at his Fast X encounter with Han, who shows up at Shaw’s door. That scene is resolved in Fast X, and the tenth film’s mid-credits scene also promises a return of a previous major character.

2. Hobbs’ Return and How It Sets Up Fast 11

The mid-credits scene shifts to a mission involving Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs, who appeared in Hobbs & Shaw. Hobbs and his team enter a deserted warehouse with screens showing Dom and his family over time.

Hobbs answers a phone call from Dante, the Fast X antagonist. Dante blames Dom for his father’s death, but reveals that Hobbs was the one who shot Hernan Reyes. Hobbs is also a target of Dante’s vengeance, but he is not afraid to confront him.

Hobbs’ comeback in Fast X’s mid-credits scene changes everything. It adds to the film’s cliffhanger and prepares the stage for Fast & Furious 11. With Dom and his team separated, Hobbs’ presence could distract Dante for some time, especially if he thinks he has defeated Dom and his family.

Hobbs’ return could also boost the next film’s momentum, as Dante’s vendetta against Dom could have become stale without a new target. Moreover, Dante’s desire to eliminate Hobbs creates a chance for a thrilling alliance with Dom, which has been long overdue.

3. Hobbs’ Return Also Sets Up Hobbs & Shaw 2

Deckard Shaw had a brief appearance in Fast X, but he left to assist Queenie when Dom’s allies were attacked by mercenaries.

Their possible collaboration to aid Dom in the next film could also pave the way for Hobbs & Shaw 2. The first film, a spinoff after The Fate of the Furious, was a hit, so a sequel is plausible, especially with the main Fast & Furious films ending soon. However, there are no discussions about Hobbs & Shaw 2 at the moment.

4. What does Hobbs’ Return Mean for the Rock Vs Vin Diesel Drama?

Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel’s conflict has been public and well-known since 2016. It seems to originate from the two actors being, in Diesel’s words “two alphas,” which probably affects the power balance behind the scenes, as well as their different values and work styles.

While Johnson, as of late 2021 stated that he would not return to the Fast & Furious franchise, his unexpected cameo in Fast X’s mid-credits scene indicates that his dispute with Diesel is resolved. Or at least, it’s paused to concentrate on giving the franchise a satisfying conclusion.

Fast & Furious 11 prepares the onscreen reunion of the quarreling actors with Dante as their shared foe. It’s surprising given their past, and the fact that they didn’t film their scenes together for The Fate and the Furious.

It’s possible that the duo won’t actually share any scenes in Fast X but given their characters’ situation and the enemy they face; it would be appropriate if Diesel and Johnson finally joined forces one last time to end the franchise together. Family is family, after all, despite the conflict.
