The President of 20th Century Fox, Steve Asbell, in a recent interview mentioned that the script of Free Guy 2 is almost ready and will soon be put into production. Further, he said that there will be more Free Guy movies coming up in the near future.
In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell said that they are ‘awaiting a script that is days away’ for Free Guy 2 and it will be a ‘fantastic story’.
He also said that there are ‘more Free Guy movies’ in the line-up, teasing more sequels in the franchise. Surely, 20th Century Fox is looking to make the Free Guy franchise a success.
Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, Free Guy became a massive success for Disney+ and 20th Century Fox in 2021, grossing almost $331 million globally. After the tremendous success of Free Guy, a sequel was put on the cards though no details were confirmed.
Ryan Reynolds, who played an NPC in an online video game in the film is expected to return for the sequel along and Levy is expected to direct the sequel once again. There has been no confirmation about the writing team being the same.
Reynolds recently teamed up with Levy once again for Netflix sci-fi adventure The Adam Project, which is all set to premiere on 11th March, 2022. In all probability, they will be back to the sets together for Free Guy 2 pretty soon.
Levy has been on the role recently, with him being all set to debut Stranger Things season 4 part 1 for Netflix in May. Part 2 is expected to drop in July. Further, he has also been roped in to direct a mini-series set during World War II, based on the best-seller novel ‘All the Light We Cannot See’.
Free Guy made its appearance on streaming last month and gained more popularity, making the scope of a sequel stronger. So, Free Guy is definitely on its way to become a franchise and Disney+ and 20th Century Fox can capitalize on its success in the future.
