Game of Thrones Author Confirms Jon Snow Sequel Series Development

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has confirmed that a sequel series focusing on Jon Snow’s life after the destruction of the Iron Throne is in development. The recently announced House of the Dragon is just one of the new HBO titles Martin has developed with HBO within the fantasy world of Westeros.

As most of the announced shows are prequels to Game of Thrones, the storyline of this new show is the only one that directly references potential returning characters, as this will be following the end of the flagship show.

According to reports, HBO is working on a new Game of Thrones series centered around Kit Harington’s Jon Snow. The plot of the sequel series has been kept under wraps, although it is presumed that it will pick up after Jon’s banishment from Westeros.

Harington will return to the spinoff if it moves forward. The news caught the attention of the online community, and several members of the Westeros team have since commented on the project.

As Martin confirms on his website, the series is in development, it has the working title Snow, and he himself is involved with the creative process, though he cannot divulge too many details without HBO’s approval.

As the creative team continues to finalize the first season, Snow is in the scripting stage, facing numerous rewrites. Harington originated the concept, and his team is involved at every level of the development process, according to Martin.

Although there are people working on the show, it still isn’t officially greenlit, like many Game of Thrones spinoffs.

Here’s what Martin had to say about the progress of the show so far:

“Outlines and treatments have been written and approved, scripts have been written, notes have been given, second and third drafts have been written. So far, that’s all.”

In extending Jon’s Game of Thrones story beyond its controversial conclusion, HBO is taking a risk, but it has the potential for great results. For the way it ended, Game of Thrones earned an almost infamous reputation that split audiences down the middle.

Despite its controversial ending, GoT remains a cultural phenomenon. The buzz around Jon Snow’s solo series proves that audiences are still very much interested in the world of Westeros. The sequel series might present a chance for HBO to amend its previous mistakes and creatively reimagine a new path for Snow’s life beyond the wall.

HBO could be influenced by the increased attention the project is receiving now, giving Harington and his team a chance to explore Jon Snow’s life after Westeros. It seems that some fans are really eager to venture further into The North, with speculation already rife as to who could reprise their original roles and join Harington.

It remains to be seen whether HBO will move forward with the project.
