‘Game of Thrones’: The Iron Throne Will Make Its Broadway Debut Soon

A Game of Thrones play is under development for Broadway and West End. HBO’s hit show is being brought to life again with many new projects, among which the stage adaptation is the most recent announcement. The long-running series came to an end in 2019 after eight seasons.

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin has started work on the play, as stated by The Hollywood Reporter. He will write the story for the adaptation, which will make its debut on Broadway and at West End in London and Australia.

The launch is set for 2023, with the show bringing back many well-known and loved characters from the series. It will take place during the Tourney at Harrenhal, which took place 16 years before the show’s events.

The competition is considered to be one of the biggest and most significant events in the history of Westeros. It’s known to have brought together many recognizable characters from the show, such as young Ned Stark, his sister Lyanna Stark, Jaime Lannister, Oberyn Martell, and future king Robert Baratheon.

Except for these, the rest of the character list remains unknown. However, since most of the cast from the series had been alive during the time, there is a possibility the play could feature many of them.

Looking into cash on the popularity of the previously running series, HBO currently has six different spinoffs in the works.  Furthermore, Martin too has signed an eight-figure deal with the network to develop new content for the next five years.

HBO Is Apparently Developing 3 More GOT Spinoffs

In the midst of all the new and exciting Game of Thrones ventures, the author is also working on the last two books of the saga, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. The show concluded before Martin could finish his series.

Considering the show’s disastrous finale, fans have been looking forward to the end of the literary saga as a means to redeem it. But with Martin adding more and more projects on his plate, the end seems far.
