George RR Martin Reveals Count for Dragons In House Of The Dragon

The creator of the world of Westeros, George R.R. Martin, has revealed that there will be about 17 dragons in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, House of The Dragon.

While appearing on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of Podcast co-hosted by David Mandel and Ryan Condal (co-creator on the prequel series), Martin said,

We had three of them in Game of Thrones but now we got like 17 of them. And hopefully, they’ll have their own personalities, they’ll be instantly recognizable when you see them, the colors and all of that.

Of course, the dragons do have personalities in the books, and it’ll be great to see that come alive and the dragon riders. That’s all pretty cool.

I guess it would be pretty disappointing if a series with the word ‘Dragon’ in its title did not have a bunch of dragons. But I’m willing to bet most of them would be killed off in the first few episodes, or else the CGI budget would go through the roof.

Filming for the series is currently underway, with set photos leaking online on a daily basis. Some of the recent leaks include the Targaryen and Velaryon families gathering. Other images show Daemon Targaryen wielding his legendary sword.

Some of the main characters spotted on the set include Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best), Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock), Young Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), among others.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood,’ the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen at the height of its power. Martin and Ryan Condal will serve as co-creators on the series.

The tentative release date for House of The Dragon is around mid-2022.
