‘Godzilla vs. Kong’: IMDb Removes Negative Reviews by Snyder Fans

IMDb has retaliated against several negative reviews left by SnyderVerse fans for Godzilla vs. Kong on its website. The movie is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse franchise, which crossovers iconic monsters from different films like King Kong, Godzilla, and Mothra.

However, the movie faced some flak after Snyder fans took to IMDb to leave blatantly negative reviews and 1-star ratings. This was fuelled by their anger towards Warner Bros., who recently announced that the studio doesn’t have any further plans to continue with Snyder’s vision of the Justice League universe.

The shrewd move would’ve worked against Warner Bros. since they are the overseers of the DCEU and would ultimately pull the shots regarding a Justice League sequel. However, they were successfully able to thwart the surprise attack as IMDb cleared all the review-bombed scores left for Godzilla vs. Kong

The site took down all 44 reviews of the film, 33 of which cited Warner Bros’ refusal to continue with the SnyderVerse as the reason. Only nine 1-star reviews remain, which criticize some or the other aspect of the movie itself.

In a nutshell, review-bombing involves leaving the lowest possible score by multiple people, which brings down the overall rating of a movie significantly. This would discourage audiences from seeing the film, which would, in the long run, hurt Warner Bros’ success rate.

The studio has planned a massive line-up of upcoming movies for 2021. Mortal Kombat, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and The Suicide Squad are just a few among many others. Godzilla vs. Kong, which has been much awaited, released internationally last week, grossing a whopping $123 million worldwide.

Directed by Adam Wingard with a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, the movie is the first film to feature both monsters on the same screen since the 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla. As a sequel to 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, the movie has also received positive reviews from critics who claimed it has improved from its predecessors.

As Godzilla vs. Kong keeps on wracking more views, hopefully, its future reviews will actually be merit-based and not just to put it down.
