SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from Godzilla Vs Kong.

Godzilla vs. Kong introduced a new character in the form of Ren Serizawa. The much-awaited installment in the MonsterVerse franchise dropped on March 31 both in US theatres and on streaming service HBO Max to a massive viewership. It’s been critically acclaimed by audiences and critics, and has already racked up a whopping $123 million worldwide.

The movie also introduced many new characters, one being Serizawa, who plays a significant role in the movie. As the secondary human antagonist, he is the creator of Mechagodzilla and worked with the evil organization APEX.

He is also the son of Monarch scientist Ishiro Serizawa, who was played by Ken Watanabe and debuted, back in 2014’s Godzilla. However, Ishiro met his death in Godzilla: King of the Monsters while trying to save the kaiju after his battle with Ghidorah.

Ren’s introduction to the franchise was naturally met with intrigue by fans. But that was dampened when it was revealed he worked against Monarch, the organization his father had been associated with for years.

During most of the movie, he is sidelined, but it becomes evident that his character, without a doubt, harbors villainous intentions. His goal not only tarnishes his father’s respectable legacy but also paints him as a foil to the deceased Ishiro.

Nonetheless, in the end, Ren is killed by an overflow of Kaiju energy while he is manning the Mechagodzilla, which goes out of control and starts rebelling. Ultimately, he never got to see his vision through and failed.

Irrespective of his tragic death, fans have been quick to theorize that the introduction of Ren’s Mechagodzilla could pave the way to a MonsterVerse and Pacific Rim crossover. The Drift Compatibility, which was featured as the Mechagodzilla’s operating system, is what has fans convinced that a joining of both universes perhaps is not so far.
