GoT: Samwell Actor Opens up about Possible Return for Jon Snow Series

John Bradley recently disclosed his feelings on his potential return to Samwell Tarly’s character for the Jon Snow spinoff series, after having played the beloved role for eight years.

We all know everything there is to know about Game of Thrones, but let’s do a short recap on its origins. Based on the fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss created the HBO TV series, airing in April 2011. The show was an instant hit, and viewers worldwide could not get enough of the drama and action.

The show followed nine kingdoms grappling for the iconic Iron Throne because whosoever sat on it would have control over all of Westeros. Thus ensued a raging war of political conflict, vividly gruesome violence, and amidst it all, some of the most well-written characters of all time.

The show stars a talented ensemble of actors, including Kit Harrington, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Emilia Clarke, Alfie Allen, Maisie Williams, and Lena Headey. The series went on for eight seasons and gained one of the biggest fanbases along the way. However, its final season received heavy backlash for its improper pacing, a story full of plot holes, and a complete disregard for character development.

One essential detail in the series finale was Samwell Tarly’s crowning as the Grand Maester on the Small Council, and viewers had deemed it a good ending point for John Bradley’s character.

After the controversial final season, the network has slated numerous spinoff projects around the main characters who survived the deadly world of Game of Thrones. Out of the spinoffs in development, fans are probably most excited for the Jon Snow series, which will capture Kit Harrington’s fan-favorite character on his adventures beyond the Wall.

It makes sense for fans to assume that Samwell Tarly would return for the Jon Snow series since Tarly was Snow’s most trusted and close friend. In an interview with DigitalSpy, John Bradley, who played Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones, opened up about his possible return in the upcoming Series.

Bradley first confesses that in Season 8, he had said a final goodbye to his character after having tied all loose ends, much like his other co-stars.

I think we all left Game of Thrones thinking that we’d played these characters for so long and they had such a life to them, we’d like to sort of check in with them and see how they’re getting on. We played those parts for so long that as soon as we’d finished, we felt sort of free of them in a way. Because it’s a lot of stories to carry around and a lot of emotional life to carry around with you.

But John Bradley further mentioned that he would be open to reading a script or two for the Jon Snow series, but for now, he has not been approached for the show.

But in the future, who knows? I haven’t spoken to anybody about the potential Jon Snow prequel, but if somebody wants to send a script my way, I’d be interested to read it.

Apart from Kit Harrington’s confirmed return, we have no other new information about the spinoff series. Emilia Clarke has made it clear though, that she has no intentions to return as Daenerys for any spinoff projects.

Having already said farewell to his role, Bradley might not be inclined to sign off for another long-term project, especially one as demanding as Game of Thrones was. But we can hope that with the right timing and the perfect script, the actor might change his mind.
