House Of The Dragon Teaser Gives Fans Hope With Book-Accurate Designs

The first official teaser for Game of Thrones prequel series, House Of The Dragon, is here and it proclaims the power of Dragons without even showing one.

But do not be mistaken, even though there are no Dragons in sight, a roar can be heard at the beginning of the clip. The series is already winning book fans’ hearts by showing a book-accurate Iron Throne with swords laid out further, and a far more glorious design than the basic one we saw in Game of Thrones.

Not everything’s changed though, we see a familiar design for the ‘Hand of the King’ badge on a person’s chest whose face cannot be seen. This is most probably Ser Otto Hightower who was a Hand to both, Viserys I Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen.

The very next shot shows Aegon I’s Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre, which all the Targaryen kings since Aegon IV had wielded.

Then we get Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, daughter of King Viserys, who will fight her brother, Aegon II, in Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that will surely kill a bunch of Dragons in a fight for the Iron Throne.

There’s a shot of Daemon with Rhaenyra. Daemon is the king’s younger brother, so he’s basically the princess’ uncle… but also her husband (yikes… but to be honest, this is expected from a Game of Thrones prequel).

There’s also shots of a duel with the Targaryen logo plastered all over. Other characters make brief appearances, including Daemon’s Mistress of Whisperers – Mysaria, Lady Alicent Hightower, Ser Criston Cole, among others.

The title cards read “200 YEARS BEFORE THE FALL OF THE THRONE… A DYNASTY REIGNED” as (presumably) Aegon the Conqueror is heard saying, “Gods. Kings. Fire. And Blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings… Dragons did.”

George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood serves as the backbone for the series. The book is the first volume of the two-part history of Targaryens in Westeros.

The book details the Targaryen family tree and history as a plain guide so the series is bound to take some creative liberties.

We might be able to see how Aegon the Conqueror created the Iron Throne but it won’t be explored much as it will focus on the events between the rise and fall of the house, leading up to Robert’s Rebellion in 282 AC.

The first season itself might not go beyond building conflict for Dance of the Dragons, seeing how it only has 10 episodes.

House of the Dragon is set to debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2022.
