Spider-Man 3: Who Is the Main Villain in Marvel’s Upcoming Movie?

According to rumors, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin could be the main villain for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Set to be the 27th installment in the MCU and the third in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise, the upcoming movie is shaping up to be much different from what fans expected following the ending of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

If that were to happen, No Way Home will reprise a 19-year-old villain which would mean the Green Goblin will be more than just a cameo.

Goblin was the main villain in 2002’s Spider-Man and had cameos in both sequels after his death. But now it seems his return in No Way Home could see him playing a major role.

Jeff Sneider of Collider revealed on his The Sneider Cut podcast that he has heard Green Goblin is the main villain in Spider-Man 3 and is “pretty sure” about the accuracy of the information.

He also noted that the character is one of the six villains appearing in the movie. The title is a reference to the villains belonging to other dimensions not being able to return home.

However, he did inform audiences to take the details revealed with a proverbial grain of salt until anything is officially confirmed.

Although if this information turns out to be correct, it will be interesting to see what role Goblin ends up playing in the upcoming movie.

Dafoe’s character died when his glider impaled him in the first movie, so how he survives that fate remains unclear. There is a possibility that the Green Goblin set to be featured in No Way Home is perhaps not the same as in Sam Raimi’s films.

Alfred Molina has already confirmed his return as Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. Still, Marvel could seek a different approach if Green Goblin were to return as well, altering parts of his story or characterization.

Furthermore, Goblin’s central role in Spider-Man 3 could be part of Marvel and Sony’s plans for the franchise’s future.

If he is to appear alongside five other villains, it is likely that at some point in the movie, Osborn might find the Sinister Six. Sony has had a Sinister Six movie in the plans for a while now, but to no avail yet.

Thus, depending on how Goblin’s story ends in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there is a chance that following his highly anticipated return, Dafoe could reprise his role in future MCU projects. Here’s hoping Marvel reveals further information on these theories and rumors soon.
