Chambers Will Not be Returning as Alex Karev in Grey’s Anatomy S20

There’s some bad news for Grey’s Anatomy fans. It seems like Justin Chambers will not be returning as Alex Karev in the upcoming season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy. There was some speculation about Karev’s return to the series, but a recent report has debunked the rumors.

Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC in 2005 and has been going strong since then. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the series is a hospital drama that follows the professional and personal lives of various medical and surgical interns. It is the longest-running cable show as of now.

The series is all set to return with season 20 and rumors surrounding the return of a popular character, Alex Karev, have been doing the rounds. The actor posted something suspicious on his Instagram account. However, a recent report from TVLine indicates against it.

The caption, which read “A fresh cup of Greys” gave rise to several fan theories and speculation about the return of his character. However, the TVLine report, published just a day after Chambers’ post, confirms that there’s “no truth to the rumor”. The actor will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon.

Justin Chambers played the role of Alex Karev for 16 seasons on Grey’s Anatomy, before his sudden exit from the show. His exit was not taken favorably by most fans and the show faced immense criticism. Moreover, his character too did not get a satisfactory ending in the show.

In the series, Karev was in a developing marriage with Jo. He was also improving his professional relationships, especially with Meredith after she helped him keep his medical license. But his character suddenly decided to shift to Kansas to be with his ex-wife, Izzie and their children.

Karev’s exit came as a shock to the fans as he was suddenly removed from all of Grey’s Anatomy’s events despite being there for so long. Post his exit, Justin Chambers mentioned that he loves the show, but he wants to move on with his career and life.

Speaking of his return to Grey’s Anatomy, it is quite unlikely in the near future, especially because Chambers has taken a break from acting in the recent past. Moreover, rumors surrounding his Instagram post were immediately debunked so there’s little hope of him returning anytime soon.
