All 8 Harry Potter Films to Be Available on HBO Max Starting Next Month

Hogwarts letters will be arriving at a different location in the US from September 1. All eight Harry Potter films from Warner Bros. will be available to stream on HBO Max starting next month.

Based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels, these include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (“Philosopher” for the rest of the world), Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2.

The movie franchise was previously available for almost a year on NBCUniversal’s Peacock. HBO Max had the series when the streaming platform first launched in May 2020, but for only a three-month period before moving platforms.

The Harry Potter franchise has a loyal and ever-growing fanbase. The series is a classic and carries nostalgia for a whole generation, a sure-shot way to attract and retain subscribers. The films make up the third highest-grossing movie franchise, making $7.7 billion worldwide, just behind Disney’s Marvel and Star Wars.

As first reported by Deadline, other titles appearing on HBO Max in September also include News of the World, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Mortal Kombat, among others.

Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter had announced that a Harry Potter live-action TV series is in early development at HBO Max. However, HBO Max and Warner Bros. said that “there is no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”

Actor Tom Felton said that he was down for anything HP-related,

If you’re asking me, will I dye my hair blonde again to be Draco, abso-bloody-lutely. I’ll play Draco’s kid if you really want! Any chance to be a Malfoy again would be greatly accepted.

As for Rupert Grint, it would take some convincing,

I think going back now would be … I can’t really imagine it. But, I mean, never say never. It would only be if everyone else wants to do the same. But yeah, no… I think just leave it.

Even if WB decided to make a spinoff, J.K. Rowling will have a say in what goes and be involved in some capacity.

Given that Rowling’s recent comments about trans people caused major backlash, it would still complicate things as some people would be hesitant to support the series.

Regardless, diehard Potterheads might still watch it.
