Yet Another Cancelation by HBO Max; This Time it’s Titans

It’s been long since we met our Titans, isn’t it? Well unfortunately, the future isn’t looking too good for Titans in the DCU.

The mid-season finale of Titans season 4 aired in December last year, which is the last time we saw our surrogate family. The second part of season 4 will air later this year, and that will be the end of it.

Titans has been canceled by HBO Max, so season 4 will be the last season of the series. Titans will not return for a fifth season.

It isn’t a surprise anymore, considering how Warner Bros. has been canceling shows left, right and center. However, we got to accept it and look forward to newer projects from the company. As of now, we can look forward to the last six episodes of Titans and hope that the show gets a well-written ending.

Why was Titans canceled?

As we know, James Gunn and Peter Safran has recently taken over DC Studios as co-CEOs. After their appointment, there have been a few radical changes in the DCU, owing to their elaborate 10-year plan regarding the franchise’s future.

However, this time James Gunn is not the culprit! The co-CEO recently addressed the cancelation of Titans on his Twitter account, where he said,

“The decision to end the series precedes us. But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.”

In other words, we’re not sure why exactly Titans was canceled, but the decision to cancel it was made before Gunn took over as CEO. The decision “precedes” Gunn and Safran, so we can say for sure that this has nothing to do with Gunn’s future plans with the DCU.

The merger of DC Studios’ parent company, Warner Bros. and Discovery could be one reason behind this, as this has led to the cancelation of several DCU projects. The Arrowverse is also more or less over at The CW, and James Gunn recently confirmed that he has no intention of continuing Legends of Tomorrow.

All in all, things are changing drastically for the DCU and Titans being canceled is a part of the same process. It does not fit into the DCU’s vision anymore.

What to Expect from Titans Season 4

Although Titans has been canceled, HBO Max has also confirmed that it will return for its final season. Titans season 4 will return with its last six episodes soon and the makers have to wrap up the story within these few episodes.

Although HBO Max claims to have given enough time to the makers to wrap up the show, the cancelation announcement can definitely have a significant impact on the last few episodes of Titans. The primary reason is that the remaining episodes may not have been designed as concluding episodes, which will leave the show hanging if not changed accordingly.

We could even end up with a cliffhanger finale, setting up a new storyline or a villain. Only time will tell what the last few episodes of Titans have in store for us, but let’s hope the show gets a deserving ending.
