HBO Max Is Making A Multi-Part Doc Series About The Murdaugh Murders

Ever since the Murdaugh murders took place in June, the case has had several shocking developments that link it to other cold cases. And now HBO Max is making a multi-part documentary series about it.

For more than eight decades, three generations of the Murdaugh family had been the legal dynasty across five counties around South Carolina.

However, the family name is now known for the gruesome double homicide of Alex Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, 52, and son, Paul, 22.

On June 7, Maggie and Alex were brutally murdered and had several gunshot wounds when Alex found them at their home in Islandton, SC.

As reported by Deadline, the doc series will follow the mysterious events that conspired after the murders. HBO Max is developing Murdaugh Family Mysteries with Campfire Studios.

The case was further complicated when Alex called 911 and reported he had been shot in the head by a mystery trucker when he was changing a tire on his way to Charleston.

Now, Alex has issued a statement saying that he was quitting PMPED, the law firm his great-grandfather founded, on allegations of stealing from the firm and said he was entering rehab.

Alex and his son, Buster, have offered a $100,000 reward for the homicides, but no arrests have been made, neither have the police identified a suspect or a motive.

However, if speculations were to be believed, the case could have two other cases potentially connected to it.

Paul was out on bail after being charged in 2019 for allegedly killing Mallory Beach in a drunken boating accident in 2019.

The police have also learned something that led them to open an inquiry into another case from 2015. 19-year-old Stephen Smith was found 10 miles from the Murdaugh home, his death was said to be a hit-and-run, but rumors suggest that Buster might’ve been involved.

Campfire will reportedly ‘work with local sources and embed within the community for the docuseries.’

HBO Max has recently been focusing on its true-crime titles with other projects like The Staircase and The Crime of the Century.
