Marc Guggenheim has revealed that the upcoming HBO Max series, Green Lantern, will deviate from the Arrowverse. The screenwriter also wants to ‘get right what was done wrong 10 years ago.’
Guggenheim basically created the Arrowverse. Starting with Arrow, he paved the way for superhero TV series such as The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and many others to create the multiverse (which ultimately led to the mega-crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths).
While speaking to Comicbookmovie.com about Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, Guggenheim revealed bits about where the Green Lantern series is headed. When asked what fans of the Arrowverse can expect to see in the series, he answered,
Green Lantern, we’re approaching it as doing it distinct from the Arrowverse. It’s not going to have any creative tendrils. But yeah, myself, Greg Berlanti, Lamont Magee, Geoff Johns, we’ve all got experience in the Arrowverse.
I’m sure that in some way, shape, or form, the sensibilities but also a lot of lessons, we learned a lot of lessons across doing these shows both from a creative standpoint and a production standpoint. I’m sure we’ll be bringing that experience to Green Lantern as we get deeper and deeper into the series.

Guggenheim also expressed his desire to fix what the original 2011 Ryan Reynolds film got wrong.
Greg and I have worked together for 16 years now. We’ve worked together on a lot of different things – some DC-related, some not DC-related. He came to me years ago, now, with the idea of “DC is letting us do a Green Lantern series for their streaming service, would you want to be involved?”
And, I said, of course. Because of the movie and that experience, there’s a strong desire on my part and on Greg’s part to get right what had been gotten wrong ten years ago.

As per THR, HBO Max’s Green Lantern will be the most expensive show that Arrow-verse architect Greg Berlanti has produced in his career.
The description for the Green Lantern series reads:
Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.
Guggenheim, Berlanti, and Seth Grahame-Smith will executive produce alongside Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg– with Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi co-executive producing.
The series is one of several DC Comics projects in the works for HBO Max. These include James Gunn’s Suicide Squad spinoff about Peacemaker and a series about the Gotham City police department that will have ties with Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
J.J. Abrams is also working on multiple titles, including a reimagined Kal-El as Black Superman and Justice League Dark.
