House of the Dragon Episode 7 Preview: We Play an Ugly Game!

HBO Max has released a teaser for the upcoming Episode 7 of House of the Dragon. The teaser promises that the episode will be full of action, with a number of old characters returning, plus glimpses of bloodshed and violence.

House of the Dragon is a spinoff of the popular fantasy drama series, Game of Thrones, and is set 172 years before the events of its predecessor. Based on George R. R. Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood, the series traces the events leading to the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of Dragons.

Episode 6 featured a ten-year time jump, involving multiple aged-up recastings and the introduction of a number of new characters. Following the premiere of this week’s episode, HBO released a teaser for next week’s episode with an interesting turn of events.

The 1-minute-10-seconds-long teaser includes several glimpses of interesting events that we can expect to see, along with voiceovers by various characters who were not present in Episode 6 but are expected to return in Episode 7. The teaser begins with a voiceover by Corlys Velaryon, with glimpses of Ser Laenor and Rhaenyra on the Stepstones.

Episode 6 revealed that war has broken out in the Stepstones once again since Daemon Targaryen won the previous war against Crab Feeder. Ser Laenor was eager to be back at sea for this reason, and it seems like his wish will be fulfilled partially.

The teaser also hints at Daemon Targaryen’s return to King’s Landing. There are glimpses that show Daemon back in King’s Landing, and also meeting Rhaenyra, who left for Dragonstone at the end of Episode 6.

Fire is such a strange power. Everything that House Targaryen possesses is owed to it.

Rhaenyra Targaryen

In one scene, Daemon’s daughters, Baela and Rhaena, inform someone that Vhagar, the largest dragon in Westeros has been stolen by “someone”. There are also several hints that suggest that Otto Hightower, the previous Hand of the King and Alicent’s father, will be back as the new Hand, following the unfortunate death of Lyonel Strong.

Otto Hightower returning as Hand of the King will have huge consequences for Rhaenyra, given that he would do anything to jeopardize Rhaenyra’s succession and place his own grandson, Aegon, on the throne.

I promise you, in time, you and I together, will prevail.

Otto Hightower

The teaser also featured glimpses of blood and violence, so we can expect to see war and bloodshed in Episode 7.

As of now, things are at an interesting position in the series. Otto Hightower will most likely return to King’s Landing, giving Alicent the support that she needed. With Harwin Strong and Lady Laena being out of the picture, Daemon and Rhaenyra’s reunion will not be far away, either.

With every step, the series is moving closer to the inevitable civil war. Hopefully, future episodes will live up to the high standards set by the existing episodes.

House of the Dragon will return with Episode 7 on October 2, 2022, on HBO Max.
