Henry Cavill Wants Superman to Be the “True Symbol of Hope” after ZSJL

Whether you’re into DC or Marvel or not into superhero movies at all, one thing everyone can agree on is that Henry Cavill is the perfect Superman.

When Justice League Snyder Cut revived the superhero in the way he truly deserved (and without a bad CGI mouth), our love for Superman grew tenfold.

Now, more than ever, fans have been wondering if Cavill will return to wear the symbol of hope once again. In a new interview with GQ Spain, the actor expressed his thoughts on the character’s fate,

I was very keen on really fleshing out Superman’s early stages of his journey first. We had Man of Steel, and then we went quite a bit darker with Batman V Superman. And if he were to succumb to the Anti-Life Equation and become bad Superman, I really wanted to make sure we saw the hero Superman, and we saw the true symbol of hope, the beacon of light before we went down the path of darkness and then redemption. And it’s still something that I am very keen to flesh out.

Although Snyder Cut isn’t exactly canon (which it absolutely should be), the end-credit scenes did tease what the director had in mind for Superman. It would be quite interesting to see how it would unfold if The Knightmare were to be explored for Cavill’s return to the DCEU.

Many comic book fans have often talked about how DCEU makes Superman a “dark, morally grey” character, which is far from his portrayal in the comics and animated shows.

Cavill’s comment makes it clear that if given a chance, the actor would portray Superman in a more comic-accurate fashion, showing that, deep down, the character will always be good despite what happens to him.

This is just wishful thinking, though. Seeing how The Flash will introduce Sasha Calle as Supergirl, WB definitely seems to be leading the focus away from Superman.

We might not get Cavill’s Superman back anytime soon. However, two new Superman projects are being developed for HBO Max—Michael B. Jordan’s Val-Zod and another one by J.J. Abrams that will supposedly make Clark Kent Black.

Cavill is currently busy slaying monsters as Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s The Witcher, so we still get to see him being somewhat similar to the iconic superhero (minus the laser eyes, of course!).

About Justice League Snyder Cut

Co-produced by Warner Bros. and DC Films, Justice League Snyder Cut is the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe and based on the DC Comics superhero team. As the theatrical release, Zack Snyder’s Justice League features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League follows the Justice League—Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg—as they attempt to save the world from the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons.

Although fans have asked for Snyderverse to continue Warner Bros has no such plans.
