Henry Cavill Talks About Playing Sherlock & The Netflix-WB Fiasco

Superstar Henry Cavill recently opened up about widening his acting spectrum with films like Enola Holmes, and also about the Netflix-WB fiasco.

The actor is widely known for portraying Superman in the DC Extended Universe. However, due to his exceptional acting skills, he started getting diverse roles in other movies.

One of his most famous roles is that of Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes series, which centers around Millie Bobby Brown’s titular character. After the massive success of Enola Homes, the actor reprised his role in the sequel.

The 40-year-old actor talked to GamesRadar in 2022 about his role in the Enola Holmes series.

He said that he wanted to do justice to his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the popular Netflix series and maintain the character’s essence amid the confusing heap of franchises and universes.

He also remarked that playing the legendary detective was challenging and that Sherlock Holmes would’ve loved it a lot.

I think part of him enjoys actually being genuinely challenged. It isn’t boring. He’s on the back foot and against the ropes.

Cavill further discussed his character’s challenges in the second part of the interview. He talked about Sherlock feeling frustrated and tired because he could not solve the mystery.

While his character struggled with different challenges, the actor talked about the franchise’s future and the harsh reality of the industry.

After Enola Holmes 2, many fans were curious if Cavill would return to the franchise again since he and Millie Bobbie Brown had fantastic chemistry in the first two films.

When the actor was asked about the future of the series, he talked about the unpredictability of the industry and the frequent ups and downs of various franchises.

I have experience with franchises going places, and going quiet, and other franchises popping up and becoming exciting. It’s all about the decision-making up top, and everything else that goes with it. I’m merely the hired work.

Cavill’s situation looks pretty topsy-turvy at this point.

He announced his departure from The Witcher to reprise his role as Superman but was weeded out of the new DC slate as the franchise had no plans to incorporate Cavill’s Superman.

Since both Warner Bros. and Netflix have recently taken an aversion towards casting Henry Cavill, it remains to be seen whether he will reprise his role in the detective series.

As he prepares to play Geralt of Rivia for the final time in season 3 of The Witcher, he will pass on the torch to Liam Hemsworth, who will take over the role in the next season.

The Netflix show will release the upcoming season in two parts, with the first arriving on June 29 and the second on July 27, 2023.
