James Gunn’s DCU Plan Does Not Feature Henry Cavill as Superman

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios finally confirms on social media that his plan for the future of DCU does not include Henry Cavill as Superman. Gunn also revealed some more details about his future plan so fans can now have a clearer idea of what’s coming up.

Shortly after taking over, the new CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, revealed that they have an elaborate decade-long plan in the making that will reform and rethink the DC Universe. Gunn and Safran have not been clear about their intentions until now, which led to lots of speculation about what the future of the DCU would look like.

James Gunn previously revealed that his plan would be largely story-driven and everything that will be done would be done for the sake of a singular, specific story and our beloved DC characters. The DC CEO took to social media once again this week to reveal major details about his upcoming plan.

The biggest detail Gunn revealed about his upcoming plan is that it will not include Henry Cavill as Superman, at least not as of now. According to Gunn, Peter and he has a DC slate ready to implement and they’ll be able to reveal more specific information about it at the beginning of 2023.

Gunn further explained that in the initial stages of their plan, the DCU will focus on the early life of Superman. Thus, the character will not be played by Henry Cavill as of now. However, Gunn also mentioned that they had a great meeting with Henry where they discussed various exciting possibilities of working together in the future.

After revealing this major detail, Gunn also interacted with several fans on Twitter and answered their questions. One user asked who would be writing and directing the upcoming Superman movie, to which Gunn replied that he has been writing the script for a while. However, no director has come on board yet.

Gunn also hinted that Ben Affleck could direct the film. He mentioned that he and Peter met Ben Affleck as he is interested in directing the film. They just need to find the “right project”. The DC CEO further confirmed that the upcoming Superman movie will not be an origin story.

In other words, James Gunn and Peter Safran are all set to completely redesign the DC Universe. As rumors previously suggested, Gunn and Safran’s master plan will include several re-castings. So, we might have to bid goodbye to many actors who’ve been associated with the DCU all this while. Henry Cavill’s recasting is just the beginning.

However, DC fans should give James Gunn’s labor of love a fair chance. Though his plan includes major changes including upsetting re-castings, it does not mean it won’t work. For all we know, the DCU has not been particularly successful in the last few years.

Perhaps, Gunn and Safran’s plan can work for the better and compete with the MCU once again. Considering James Gunn’s experience as a writer-director in big-budget films such as the Guardians of the Galaxy series and The Suicide Squad, he might be the right person to bring the DCU back to its glory days.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the DCU. As of now, we can wait for the beginning of the new year to hear some more exciting details about James Gunn’s plan.
