Here’s Every MCU Annoucement Made at CinemaCon 2022

Many big franchises and movies release exclusive material during their panels at CinemaCon, but trust Marvel to keep their cards close to their chest. Disney had a presentation slot on Day 3 of CinemaCon 2022, within which the MCU made an appearance.

What exactly did they reveal?

At CinemaCon 2022, Marvel released the first 20 minutes of Doctor Strange 2. Besides this, there were no major MCU announcements other than Kevin Feige stating that the creative team is planning projects covering the next 10 years.

While it was great to get Doctor Strange 2’s opening act, most attendees were from the press who’d get early access to the movie next week anyway.

It was also a tad disappointing that Marvel did not release any new information about Thor 4 or Black Panther 2.

Doctor Strange 2 (Spoiler-free Version)

So, although Marvel chose to continue keeping things in the dark, attendees did get the chance to see the first 20 minutes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The good news is that most of the trailers and the promos released have used footage from these initial moments only, which means there is so, so much left to surprise and entertain us in the rest of the film.

A spoiler-filled version of the opening 20 minutes is available online, but for those who want to keep the mystery intact, here’s a recap of what happens:

  • Opens by introducing America Chavez’s character.
  • Steven attends Christine’s wedding and expresses his regret over their relationship.
  • A Shuma-Gorath attack in downtown NY.
  • Wong, as the Sorcerer Supreme, theorizes that they may find a solution in the Book of Vishanti, and seeks out Wanda’s help because part of it deals with witchcraft.

Disney Theatrical Distribution head, Tony Chambers, also took this as an opportunity to announce Doctor Strange 2’s presale tickets now stand at $42 million. With only a week to go, it’s no doubt that the movie will become a box office hit.

Marvel’s Sizzle Reel

Other than Doctor Strange 2, Marvel did not reveal any additional footage of upcoming projects including the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In their sizzle reel (which is usually a short, introductory video to show off a portfolio’s best bits), a few clips of Thor 4 and Black Panther 2 were pieced in, but the only part that stood out was a scene of Nakia, Shuri, and Okoye in the forefront of a major battle.

Black Panther

In light of the multiple delays MCU films have faced, Feige has confirmed that Black Panther 2 is still on track for November 11, 2022.

Feige ended the MCU section of Disney’s presentation by stating he’s off to a “Marvel creative retreat” that is about to chalk up MCU’s entire timeline of projects for the next 10 years.

Where can I sign up to join this retreat? More importantly, can Feige live-tweet these MCU plan updates, please?
