Ted Lasso Twitter Thinks the Roy Kent Effect Is Similar to Chewbacca

Shots were fired (but in a nice way) as the official Ted Lasso Twitter account has compared Richmond’s assistant coach Roy Kent to Chewbacca while talking about something dubbed “The Roy Kent Effect.

For the oblivious few, Chewbacca is one of the most beloved characters of Star Wars. So one may wonder why this Roy Kent character is being compared to the loyal Wookiee?

Well, Roy (played by Brett Goldstein) starts the series as AFC Richmond’s aging and angry captain, a foul-mouthed midfielder who is way past his playing days.

After being forced to retire due to a knee injury, Roy returned to Richmond as an assistant coach in S02E05, “Rainbow.” The audience sees him transform as he has a slight change of heart under Ted’s coaching, hence dubbed ‘The Roy Kent Effect.’

The AFC Richmond Twitter account posted a clip that shows Roy in a post-match video as he responds to questions about the ‘effect’ in his usual manner.

The Ted Lasso account responded to the tweet and called the effect similar to having Chewbacca on the team, comparing Roy to Chewie for being ‘loud’ and ‘hairy.’

Previously actress Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca Welton, compared Season 2 to The Empire Strikes Back. As popular as the show is, Ted Lasso is still set to end with its third season.

Season 2 has already reached its halftime with six episodes. The season finale is set for October 8, 2021.

Titled “Headspace” (you know… like the meditation app everyone goes to when they’re anxious), Episode 7 will see Ted deal with his internal conflicts as he seeks help after the previous episode saw him make an appointment with Dr. Sharon.
