Skeptics said that How I Met Your Father would not last for more than one season. For better or for worse, they’ve been proved wrong as the show has secured a second season in the bag.
The true comparison between HIMYM and HIMYF can only happen when the latter is given just as much time to tell its story and in this vein, S2 will even have ten more episodes than S1.
Despite it’s not-so-stellar reviews, the show did acquire quite a few loyal fans which might be another reason for its renewal.
Hulu has renewed HIMYF for Season 2 with 20 episodes. The full cast is expected to return with a release date tentatively between the end of 2022 and early 2023.
The renewal is in its early stages, so we don’t have many details to go on. Here are some speculations about S2.
1. Everything We Know about HIMYF S2
Rejoice HIMYF fans, there is a confirmed Season 2! The better part of this renewal is that the season will have 20 episodes as opposed to S1’s ten. What a relief!
There was a lot of feedback that one of the reasons HIMYF did not bloom as much as its predecessor is because it really wasn’t given the time to. After all, ten 24-minute episodes could only do so much with an ensemble cast.
Now that S2 will rectify this, we will get more time to invest in all the characters and end up with an even better sophomore season.
2. When will HIMYF S2 air?
Since it was only renewed this February, it will at least take a couple of months for the show to come back with S2. I expect the release date to be sometime between the end of 2022 and early 2023.
3. What will HIMYF S2 be about?
The father, of course! Jokes apart, we will definitely see a new chapter of Sophie’s love life, the one that’s all about Ian’s return. Yes, what a way to end S1!
Apart from Ian’s serendipitous return, we have plenty of plotlines to carry forward: Sid and Hannah’s long-distance marriage, Charlie and Valentina’s break-up, Ellen’s newfound success in love and career, and well… that kiss between Jesse and Meredith.
I’m sure there will be a lot more twists and turns added to these plotlines. Season 2 is going to be a big cup of drama that we’ll long to take a sip from.
4. Will HIMYF’s full cast return for S2?
For now, it’s safe to assume that all the cast members will be reprising their roles in S2 until any further announcements. We are yet to learn if recurring characters like Drew and Meredith will be returning, but nothing’s off the table yet.

How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.
HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.
The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.
Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
