Ridley Scott Might Release A Long Cut For House of Gucci and The Last Duel

In an interview with ReelBlend Podcast, director Ridley Scott shared his plans for House of Gucci and The Last Duel, revealing that there might be an extended cut version of the two films.

Scott talked with CinemaBlend managing director Sean O’Connell and Entertainment Reporters Kevin McCarthy and Jake Hamilton, discussing his filmography style, his last two films, streaming and theater releases, and more.

McCarthy and Hamilton asked the genius director if a director’s cut for House of Gucci and The Last Duel.

At first, he revealed that he regretted cutting off 17 minutes in The Last Duel, which was an essential part of the story, for him. He is aware of the ‘it’s too lengthy’ criticism that films are often subjected to (which The Last Duel was criticized for too) – but to make it according to the audience is an angle he has to keep in mind.

Yeah no not really. I mean what goes out tends to be the film. And you know, I’m pretty responsible.. I’m not going to say it’s going to be four hours like a bore. There’s already two and a half plus [hours], which is long but I think I’m very aware of where.. What you’ve got is the bombing factor. You’ve got to watch that audiences aren’t getting out [like] ‘Jesus, this is too long’. So I’m aware of that as well.

After a bit of a vague answer, Scott added that he might release either of the two film’s long cuts, emphasizing that it will not be a director’s cut per se. The thing that would favor the extended cuts will be the audience watching it at home and taking whatever breaks they want.

But I think things do play better at home because people pause it, get a beer and come back. So I will probably do a judge’s cut, yeah… But it won’t be a director’s cut, it’ll be a long cut.

The question of a director’s cut did seem interesting, considering it has been quite the rage since the last few years. It shows the audience a whole new perspective from the final cut, selected by producers too, keeping in mind its commercial value.

When and where the extended versions of House of Gucci or The Last Duel might arrive, are still unanswered. Till then, fans can check out the former on Paramount+ and the latter in theaters or VOD.
