House of the Dragon Episode 7: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

After another time jump, this one spanning ten years, we see Rhaenyra give birth to her third son. Alicent summons her to her chambers, where the King meets his newest grandson. Alicent slyly remarks to Laenor that this baby, too, looks nothing like him.

As Rhaenyra inches closer to being found out with rumors galore, Laenor spends his time drinking and indulging himself. Meanwhile, Daemon gets offered a Lordship at Pentos. Alicent vows to see her son, Aegon, on the Iron Throne.

As the rumors of her sons’ lineage continue to spin out of control, Rhaenyra moves to Dragonstone with Laenor and her children. We can also expect to find out whether Daemon’s daughter will finally get a dragon and how the children will cope with Laena’s death.

Alicent’s hatred towards Rhaenyra is only likely to grow as she will make it her mission to ensure that Rhaenyra is removed as heir and her son Aegon becomes King. We can also expect to see Aegon get further emboldened by his mother’s repeated declarations of his birthright to the Iron Throne.

Speaking of Alicent’s children, Helaena predicts an event that occurs later in the series—her brother Aemond losing an eye in his battle with Lucerys while she seemingly talks to one of her pet bugs.

Additionally, the King will seek another candidate to be his Hand after Larys Strong murders his father and brother under the guise of working for the Queen’s cause. Will Otto Hightower be back?

5. Episode 6 Recap

The episode opens following a decade-long time jump, with Rhaenyra giving birth to her third child. She’s summoned to the Queen’s quarters immediately after childbirth and she scrambles through the castle in her vulnerable condition, Laenor on her side.

Viserys, who is still alive, is thrilled to meet his grandson and seemingly doesn’t notice that the baby looks nothing like Laenor. Laenor names the baby Joffrey without consulting Rhaenyra. It’s later revealed that Rhaenyra’s other two sons look nothing like Laenor as well.

Alicent tries to convince Viserys that Rhaenyra’s children haven’t been fathered by Laenor but he resists and tells her not to bring it up again. Ser Criston now serves as the Queen’s right hand and both of them share a hatred for Rhaenyra.

Meanwhile, Daemon is now married to Laena Velaryon and gets offered a permanent royal residence during one of their visits to Pentos. Laena is hesitant to take up the offer but Daemon wishes to consider it. After a difficult labor, she chooses to give up her life than bleed on the birthing bed. Daemon is thus left a widower with two daughters.

House of the Dragon is the prequel series to HBO’s blockbuster Game of Thrones based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

Set three hundred years before the events of Game of ThronesHouse of the Dragon will show Westeros under the Targaryen family’s rule before the dragons went extinct. It will follow the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war between siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra, who fought for the throne after the death of their father, Viserys I.
