New House of the Dragon S2 BTS Reveals New Nickname for Rhaenyra

Aemond’s dragon killing Lucerys Velaryon and the fiery look in Rhaenyra’s eyes upon the news of her son’s murder solidified the beginning of the bloody Dance of the Dragons. With Daemon fueling the fumes of revenge and rage in Rhaenyra’s heart, the Greens can expect an attack on King’s Landing anytime.

According to new House of the Dragon season 2 footage, they’re already playing mind games to undermine the rightful queen of Westeros. In the new BTS posted by Twitter user @housethedragons, a funeral procession is being led, with Alicent and Helaena in tow, while an attendant shows off the work of “Rhaenyra the Cruel.”

Theories for the small coffin are floating, and some suggest the Greens are now revealing King Viserys’ death, putting the blame upon his daughter’s head to solidify Aegon’s claim to the throne.

By implying Rhaenyra the Cruel had a hand in her father’s death, the kingdom, including her loyal followers, will not be able to support her ascension to the Iron Throne. A masterful plot at the hands of the Hightowers!

King Viserys’ Corpse

Another theory speculates that due to Helaena’s sole appearance beside Alicent, the aforementioned clip follows after the Blood and Cheese chapter. The tiny coffin could be holding the corpse of Helaena’s young infant instead of the decaying and shrunken corpse of the King.

It’s a better explanation of why she’s at her mother’s side and not Aegon, who was crowned King in the final episodes of season 1, even though his coronation was interrupted by Rhaenys atop a roaring Meleys.

How Westeros will react to the nickname is a mystery for now, but the internet and the full force of the House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones are definitely backing Rhaenyra up. After the ill-treatment she got and death of her son, fans are almost excited to see the Rhaenyra live up to the Greens’ image.

But GoT fans have heard this specific nickname elsewhere long before Rhaenyra’s existence – I’m obviously talking about Maegor the Cruel.

The Blacks’ Queen Rhaenyra

Targaryen king Maegor’s deeds earned him the nickname – he executed his wives if they couldn’t give him a son, burnt a church full of parishioners, and slaughtered the workers of his Keep. Linking his name to the Queen of the Blacks, Alicent and Otto want to instill fear and suspicion in the heart of Westeros and swoop in to save them from “the big bad monster.”

But will Rhaenyra dip into her dark side and play the role that Greens have painted for her? Guess we’ll have to wait for season 2 of House of the Dragon to find out. Until then, stay tuned to Cine Dope for the latest news about the HBO series and more!
