What are Starlight’s superpowers? How did she get them?

Starlight is one of the most underrated characters in The Boys. While supes such as Maeve and Stormfront have garnered an immense following, Starlight’s always been on the side rails, trying to help the Boys win their battles against the supes.

However, more often than not, she’s the saving grace for the team because of her powers and how much damage she can do to the likes of A-Train. We’ve seen the character shoot energy beams from her eyes, and she also looks pretty strong. So what are her actual superpowers, and how did she get them?

Starlight can absorb electricity and convert it into energy blasts. She also has superhuman strength, durability, and regenerative healing. Her powers came from Vought’s Compound V.

In an earlier season, after Starlight rose to prominence and became a part of Vought’s The Seven, we’re taken back to her origin story—a girl from a small town who today is a part of the biggest superhero team in the country.

However, we later find out that all her powers resulted from Compound V. She was infused with it at birth, and her mother had agreed to it. But she also made Starlight, aka Annie, believe that her powers were a gift from God.

Over the seasons, while fighting against the system and the supes, Annie/Starlight has come to terms with this and knows the “name of the game”. Even in Season 3, she’s trying her best to get rid of Homelander, who’s growing psychotic with each passing moment.

If we look at Starlight’s powers in the show, we’ve not had the good fortune of seeing them at play quite often. She enters the field only at the last minute and manages to do a remarkable amount of damage to any adversary.

Her signature power is her ability to absorb electricity and transform them into energy blasts. We saw this in Season 1, in her fight against A-Train, and Season 2, in her fight against Stormfront.

Besides this, she also has regenerative healing, superhuman strength, and durability. Unfortunately, we don’t know the extent of her powers and how much damage they can do when they’re used with maximum intensity.

Perhaps we’ll see that in Season 3 because she might need to fight Homelander or Soldier Boy with everything she got. We’ll just have to wait and see how that unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
